Isabella Marcellino – Project Prototypes

I am very interested in designing my senior project around two subjects that I am deeply interested in: design and Spanish. Additionally, I am very passionate about equal access to educational resources. My first idea, and the idea I have had for months, is to intern for an architecture firm, as I am interested in studying design or architecture in college. I expect that I would likely learn a lot more about the firm’s environment and work process rather than actually design anything, but I think it could be very useful in helping me decide whether I truly wish to pursue a career in design and architecture in the future. My second idea would likely be what I choose if I must work remotely: I could create an online design class for students that do not have access or resources to this sort of education in their schools. My aunt teaches Kindergarten at a Title 1 school and I think it would be a good setting for me to work with students. Leading up to Trimester 3, I would build a curriculum that focuses on creating things that students can use in their everyday lives, perhaps with materials that they already have around their home or that I could easily ship. My final idea is not about design or architecture, but rather about becoming more fluent in Spanish. If it is safe and possible, I could travel to Guadalajara, Mexico to stay with my family and immerse myself in the language. I would return to school more fluent than ever and with many heartwarming stories about my experiences and memorable conversations with family. If that does not work out, I could instead take intense Spanish classes at a university or attend a standard Mexican high school along with my cousins; Basically, anything that would force me to speak exclusively in Spanish.
