This past week I have done some research on the environmental effects from the current financial downturn due to COVID-19. It was so far the most current research I have done. As has been the trend for some time now, wind and solar-produced electricity are cheaper than their fossil fuel counterparts in some parts of the U.S. The difference now is that the cost is of more concern because of the financial hardships many companies are enduring, so renewable energy is starting to take off across the U.S. (albeit in a relatively dampened way). On the flip side, however, smaller solar panel companies are being hit hard by the recession and are thus laying off many workers, negating some of the solar growth.
