On March 1st, the new plastic bag ban in New York states took place! Why? Plastic bags are a threat to our environment, along with all plastic. Plastic bags are often found around our city either floating around in the sky, stuck on tree branches or even in our waterways! This ban takes place in any store that usually hands out plastic bags, examples: clothing store, grocery stores, etc. So now, we can start carrying out reusable bags! Our city goes through 23 BILLION plastic bags each year, and this will make a huge impact!

But not everyone is happy, here is a quote from an article from the Ny Post: “About half the shoppers seen by The Post on the first day of the bag ban, were compensating by bringing their own bags from home, while another quarter opted to just go bagless rather than pay the 5-cent paper-bag fee allowed under the law, and the remaining 25 percent coughed up the nickel charge per bag.”

What do you think? Did you think the reaction would be all positive? We will continue to wait and see!
