I really enjoyed the book The Giver by Lois Lowry. It’s a book with amazing description that makes you feel like you’re in the book.

This is a story about a community of people, where no one has any memories or feelings. They can’t even see color. Just black and white. They think they have feelings. They can get mad when someone takes their pencil, or parks their bike in the wrong slot but they can’t have any real feelings. For example, the word love is forbidden.

They have extremely strict rules, for instance there are assigned birth parents who have children and give them to any couple who wants one. The children have assigned names, and the parents are only allowed one girl and one boy. Each child is only allowed to have one comfort tool (stuffed animal) each. Everyone is forced to take pills so they can’t have any feelings. They’re not allowed to ride a bike until they’re eight. They have to wear braids until they’re seven, and then the braids get cut off. Everything, from hairstyle to transportation is decided by the elders. The elders are a group who make all the decisions. They are the government. Everything is about to change when a 12 year old boy named Jonas comes along.

I would recommend this book to people who like sci-fi books, or people who like to read books about people who are living completely different lifestyles. I also think even if you don’t like those genres, you should definitely try it. I would rate this book four stars and you should definitely read it.
