Is The End Really Near?
Is the end really near? Is the planet going to demolish itself as shown in the movie 2012? Human civilization has lived through tons of “ends of the world”. Two thousand and twelve years, or at least we think so; but is it really going to end? If the planet has stayed present for this long, what would cause it to perish? The 2012 phenomenon. This scary catastrophic and even apocalyptic event is supposed to occur on December 21, 2012. The phenomenon is driven by many eschatological beliefs. The Mayan civilization says that mankind will cease to exist on December 21, 2012. In some way the planet will be drastically transformed as their “Long Count” Calendar and 5,125 year long period will come to an end. “2012” will mark the start of a new era. However according to research, this date may be off 50 to 100 years due to a inaccuracy in reading the calendar.
This is not the first prediction that has occurred. On May 21, 2011, all mankind entered a day of judgement. The bible explains God’s plan entailed that he would only save a number of and most likely those who “believe” from a world wide earth quake. Among many other renditions another has been shared by a former civil engineer. Harold Camping, has said that an earthquake will occur. Those who survive will live in a world of horror and chaos. Each day people will die until October 21, 2011 when God will completely destroy the earth and those who have survived.
Nothing catastrophic has occurred during 2011 as the earth stayed silent. In fact NASA’s Goddard Spaceflight Center, said that astronomers can justifiably say that there is no threatening star or supernova which is close enough to hurt Earth. Great but there might be black holes, cometary bombardments, and many other realistic events which are joined with a video named 10 Ways the World Might End, on Science Channel.
How should you prepare? The only way to prepare depends on your belief about the phenomenon. If you do not believe in religion or these apocalyptic beliefs then you do not have to worry. If you do, you might want to stop planning your careers, studying, buying a house, and start living your life the way it would if the world was going to end.
