Due Friday: Social Justice Blog Work

A. Social Justice Blog Post About Last Year:

Please follow these directions in order.

Go to our Social Justice Blog: blog.lrei.org/greencore and click on the link that says 2008-2009 blog posts at the bottom of the page.

Find a post from last year that you think is A quality work.  (to scroll back you have click Previous Entries so you can find some older ones).

Copy down the name of the person, the date, and the organization (do not use the sample we used in class from Madeline, and you must not all do the same one, so find your own example!) of the post that you think is excellent.

Then, log in to post your first post which will be ABOUT that post you located from last year that you think is A quality work.  To do so, you need to log in.

  4. For your first post, write about last year’s blog post that is a A quality work and say why you were impressed and what made it so good. Follow the directions to be sure your post is recorded!

B. Posting About Any Visits: If you have had a visit, you may want to do an actual posting now; go ahead. Be sure you follow the steps and use the titling guidelines.

C.  Follow Up– with your voicemail and email to check for responses from your organizations and be in touch with your group members to keep the ball rolling. You have 9 days to complete your first visit!

Have a great MLK Weekend.  Reminder: there is no school Monday.

Please consider gathering any of the following items.  They will be sent directly to Haiti on Tuesday via charity:water by a chartered plane.  Drop off times at LREI are Saturday 10-12:00 and Monday 9-11; school will be open to accept donations. The need for these is urgent.

Sleeping bags*
Medical gloves
Bandages/gauze
Cases of bottled water

Core Homework due Tuesday:

  1. MLK Socratic Seminar Follow Up- REVISED_MLKSocraticFollowUp If you were absent, complete all parts of the questions that you are able to.
  2. Personal Narrative–Complete your revision work and bring in a revised, completed draft that is clipped to our first draft and your self-edit check sheet.

Social Justice Project: Make sure that your group has contacted at least 3 organizations for your Social Justice Project.  Make sure you get directions to your locale, and know whom to call if you are lost, and what name to give when you arrive. Plan your route out, and be on time! You need to have made an appointment for a visit before the end of January; no exceptions! There are only 2 weeks left this month!

Due tomorrow:
Complete the “I Have A Dream” Speech assignment.
-reread speech and annotate it
-write a 3/4 page response to the speech

By the end of the day Friday, your group must have contacted three organizations for your Social Justice Project.  No exceptions.

1. COmplete step #2 and #8-12 on the Personal Narrative self check sheet

2. Read for one hour.  Have you parents sign a paper tonight to verify that you read.

3. Have access to an electronic copy of you narrative draft one to work on it in class tomorrow.

Friday, Jan 8

Due Monday:

1. Winter Book Project Due.  Be prepared with a 2-4 minute presentation on your book project for splits.

2. Finish Step #3  (1-7) ONLY on the self edit check sheet for your personal narrative.
