Friday, June 12

Today was your last day of Middle School classes! YIPPEEE! Great job.

Monday is our Beach Trip! DO NOT BE LATE TO SCHOOL! You need:

  • a lunch & drink
  • beach stuff: bathingsuit & a towel, a change of clothes if you will swim so you can ride home dry
  • sunblock, hat and a sweatshirt in case it’s cold by the water
  • a pen to sign yearbooks with
  • basketball(there are courts there), frisbee, football, etc.

Tuesday, June 9

Due Wed:

  •  Be prepared to read a poem (or two) in tomorrow’s poetry reading w/ Sarah’s split.  Extra credit for those who read
  • Bring in a snack if you’d like for the splits to share during our reading.
  • If you are reading: Provide a revised speech to me, using the changes I gave you and any you got from a peer editor.

Due Thursday:

  • Stamp Project: 2 Stamps, mounted on a single board or thicker sheet of construction paper.  Each complete with colors, 44Cent label, 5 sentences.  See the assignment and adhere to the project requirements for  your grade! 

*****Bring in a bag to clean up and take home the contents of your locker! 🙂

PLEASE BRING IN BOOKS–Night, TKAM, FDR, and anything else for any of your subjects or from the library.  🙂

Wednesday, June 10: Poetry Share and Celebration in Writing Workshop Splits!

Due Thursday, June 11:

  • Your two postage stamps with a 5-sentence explanation for each one. In the written portion you should explain why it is an appropriate and compelling memorial, what the elements you selected mean and/or represent, and why the U.S. Postal Service should select yours.
  • Bring in a bag to take home the contents of your locker, desk, and hanging file!

Monday, June 8

Bring Tomorrow:

  •  Anything materials you need (i.e. colored pencils, computer programs, mounting boards, etc.) to complete your Stamp Project in class.  You will get a work period for this assignment/project tomorrow.

Wednesday:

  • We will have a Poetry Slam with Sarah’s core. Be prepared to read at least one of your poems.  This is not required but will be extra credit on your final grade. I will have one copy of our class anthology for you to read from.  
  • Due Thursday:
  • Stamp Project Due 

Friday, June 5

Due Monday:

  • Poetry Assessment – we started this in class. Scroll to previous blog for the print out.
  • 5 poems – edited (and added to) according to what you found to be missing or lacking after doing the poetry assessment.
  • Core report card comment emailed to smroberts@lrei.org
  • Two sketches of your stamps, with the writing included (5 explanatory sentences)

****Return all books: TKAM, FDR, etc. before the year is over. I have only received a few of these.

****STAMPS PROJECT DUE on THURSDAY, JUNE 11.

Wednesday, June 3

This is the poetry assessment that we did in class.  This is due, with your 5 poems (titled and re-edited) on Monday! NO LATE EXCEPTIONS.  If your poems are not turned in by Monday they will NOT be in the class anthology.

Due Thursday, June 4:

  • MOVING UP SPEECH (new and final deadline), one and one half page minimum, typed. Please state on the top of the speech IF you want to read it and WHEN you would like to read it (at the night party with families or during the Moving Up ceremony).  Due at 8:20 AM.  Guidelines here.

DUE Tomorrow:

Find a picture of a special place and a quotation that relates to it for the Artifact Video for the Moving Up ceremony.

URGENT: DUE TOMORROW – WE RAN OUT OF TIME TODAY. PLEASE, IN PREPARATION FOR TOMORROW’S MUSEUM VISIT, spend a few moments answering the following two questions and turn them in to me in AM homeroom.  This may be short and to the point.  THANKS!

  • DO YOU HAVE ANY PERSONAL CONNECTION TO THE 9/11 TRAGEDIES YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE PRIOR TO OUR VISIT TO THE 9/11 MEMORIAL MUSEUM OFFICE?
  • BASED ON  OUR STUDY OF MEMORIALS, WHAT QUESTIONS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE COMMITTEE THAT IS CREATING THE NATIONAL 9/11 MEMORIAL SLATED TO OPEN IN 2011?

Notes: *** Tomorrow is our trip to the National September 11 Museum and Memorial. We leave at 12:30 and will return by day’s end.  Please wear layers and dress appropriately and respectfully ***Moving Up Speech deadline extended until Thursday, June 4.  ***BOOK RETURN: BRING IN FDRTKAM, library books, and any other texts or library books you have that belong back here!***UNIFOM RETURN: Please return all uniforms by Wednesday, June 3.  Due Wednesday, June 3:

  • PREPARATION for POETRY WRAP UP: Bring in your five best poems from writing workshop, typed up by 8:20 AM.  We will work with these poems in class on Wednesday.
  • Night, finish the book (pages 85-115 plus Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech pages 117-20)  and complete questions on the handout for the final assignment on the reading.

  • Memorials Assignment Packet and Assignment-read and underline packet, complete questions, including making a sketch and reflecting on our 9/11 Memorial Museum visit. Please ONLY answer questions 3 and 4.
