Tuesday, October 14

Tomorrow, October 15, Wednesday, is the third and final presidential debate. You will be asked to watch and analyze one more time! It will go from 9-10:30; we’ll ask you to watch at least one hour of it. **Please plan ahead!**

Writer’s Notebook assignment due.
Due Thursday

1. Finish TBAS ch. 4 (20 more pages of reading).

2. Select two more examples of resistance that interest and strike you. Either copy  down the passage or record their page numbers.

3. Write a paragraph about each type of resistance you chose and be sure to include the slaves’ goal(s).

Wednesday, October 8

Great job on the presidential debate assignment, again! The next one is a week from today, October 15, Wednesday. Be planning ahead to watch this one as well.

**Have a wonderful, restful 5-day break! This would be a perfect time to catch up on independent reading.**

Due Tuesday: To Be A Slave, Chapter 4, the first 20 pages. Complete the handout to begin collecting writing for your upcoming essay on resistance to slavery.

NOTE #2: You have the following holidays coming up: next Thursday, October 9 (Yom Kippur), Friday, October 10 (Teacher Development Day), and Monday, October 13 (Columbus Day). You have a 5-day weekend! 🙂

1) Read chapter 1 in To Be A Slave, pages 28-38.

2) Choose three passages (from the slave narratives or Lester’s own writing) that strike you as important.  For each passage respond in these ways:

Who is saying/writing the passage? What page number is     the passage on? Why did you choose the passage? How         does the passage help you understand the experiences of         slavery in America?
