Your first letter to your Civil War Independent Book Partner! You must come to class with 2 copies of your letter and one must be turned into me. Make sure that your letter addresses a few of the examples we discussed in class.

There will be NO QUIZ tomorrow in class on Lincoln. We will save the quiz for Chapter 1 and 2 until after minimester. Yea!

Read Ch. 1 in Lincoln: An Autobiography. (Ch. 2 will be assigned Monday so you can also read this chapter if you so choose.)

These schedules are a chance for advisees and their families to meet with advisors. Due Thursday:

1. Resistance to Slavery Essay: Now that you have written a draft of your introduction with a thesis, tonight you must write the first 2 body paragraphs. The first body paragraph will flesh out one example of your first category of resistance. The second body paragraph will flesh out another example of your first category of resistance. Use the graphic organizer that we have been using in class. (click here for a copy). Do follow the guidelines in the graphic organizer!

REMINDER:

#1 You must get your own copy of one of the Civil War books by Friday! See yesterday’s blog lost for the list with notes about each book .

#2 Tomorrow you will get a copy of Lincoln: A Photobiography that we will begin to read and relate to slavery.

Tuesday, October 21

Due Wednesday:

1) A completed draft of your TBAS introduction. You should have at least 6 hearty sentences (an interesting lead-in sentence + title, author, genre + two forms of enslavement + your entire thesis).  Write this draft introduction directly onto the sheet provided in the essay packet today.

2) An Writing Workshop entry in your writers notebook based on the topic that you chose last week.

Due Friday: Have your Civil War Independent book in hand on Friday.

Reminder for Monday: First letter to your partner DUE in class.

TBAS ch. 5. Select two new kinds of resistances, write down their page numbers and write a paragraph about each that includes their goal.

Read TBAS ch. 5 (pages 117-129), and find two more examples of resistance that interest or strike you. Record their page numbers and write a paragraph about each, including the goal of the resistance.

2. Select two more examples of resistance that interest and strike you. Either copy down the passages or record their page numbers.

3. Write a paragraph about each type of resistance you chose and be sure to include the goal(s) of the resistance.
