1. Using the poems we studied today as your guide, write AND TYPE three poems:

(1) garbage (with details)

(2) diamond in the rough (with striking contrast)

(3) unbeautiful (with at least 8 similes/metaphors)

2. Turn in your Sustainability Homework!

3. Turn in your now-overdue Karamu frames so that we don’t all look like we don’t care about Karamu! Thank you!

Friday, January 11

1. Complete your book project. Remember, it will be PRESENTED in splits, DISPLAYED, and GRADED on (1) originality, (2) content , (3) presentation. Ask yourself: Have I excelled in all three areas?

Thursday, January 10

1. Using Chapter 12 of Freedom’s Unfinished Revolution (pages 263-272, excluding documents), complete the “Charting Retreat” part of the packet.

2. Continue work on your winter break book project, due Monday, January 14th. Make it stellar!

3. Core B: Bring your independent reading book.

Tuesday, January 8

1. Work on your winter break creative project. At 8:20am tomorrow morning, show me a thoughtful written brainstorm, sketch, outline, or first draft that you put at least 45 minutes of solid effort into. Click here to see the list of project options again. The final product is due Monday, January 14.

2. Read Chapter 12 of Freedom’s Unfinished Revolution (pages 263-272, excluding documents) and complete Parts I (Vocab) and II (Short Answer, Questions 1-6) of the packet. STOP at part of packet called “Charting Retreat.” You do not have to use the vocabulary words in sentences or answer the questions in complete sentences.

3. Core A: Bring independent reading book tomorrow and every Wednesday from now until the end of the year.

4. Bring your baby photo. If you do not bring it in by tomorrow, Wednesday January 9, it will not be included in the yearbook.

1. Read your newest independent reading book for 45 solid minutes. Have a parent sign in your assignment pad or write a note to verify. I will check for the parent signature at 8:20am Tuesday morning!

2. Work on your winter break reading creative project. Click here to see the list of options again. A written brainstorm/sketch/first draft is due Wednesday, January 9 at 8:20am.

3. Bring in a baby photo for the yearbook if you haven’t yet!
