Part I: Read pages 31-49 and be quiz-ready.

Part II: Write about the characters according to the handout, typed in 12-point font, double spaced with the proper heading.

(Part III, the vocabulary section, will be due Friday.)

2. My advisees (Zaran, Jack, Nicholas, Niles, Julian, Amy, Maya PH, Ella, Hannah, and Gaia) must bring in a favorite first-grade level book to read during Advisory period with our first grade friends. If you want to get the book out of the library, do it before 12:00pm on Thursday!

Tuesday, November 27

1. Complete Montana 1948 Journal Entry #2

If you finished Part I, the research, in class, go on to Part II:

Write and type up 2-3 paragraphs describing your group’s findings in your own words (and listing your sources, of course). Go on to discuss in 1-2 paragraphs what you found interesting or striking about your area of research and making any connections to the first reading assignment. Be prepared to share your work with the rest of the class.

Remember that all your Montana 1948 journal entries must be typed in 12-point font and double spaced with the proper heading!

2. Bring your independent reading book to school.

Monday, November 26

1. Type up and print out your completed Montana 1948 Journal Entry #1. Remember, it has two parts:

(a) Answer questions 1-4 in complete sentences.

(b) Type up definition, part of speech, and meaningful sentence for all 10 vocabulary words. Match your usage of the word to its usage in Montana 1948.

The heading of each journal entry should look similar to this:

Leila Sinclaire

Montana 1948 Journal Entry #1

Wednesday, November 21

1. Read pages 15-31 of Larry Watson’s Montana 1948. We will work with that section in class on Monday after Thanksgiving Break, so BE READY.

Have a fabulous Thanksgiving break with your family! There is so much for which to be thankful…

***Reminder***

If you missed Parts I and/or II of the Reconstruction film, you MUST attend a re-screening in Leila’s room on Monday, November 26th from 3:15 to 5:00.

Tuesday, November 20

1. Use the Prologue of Montana 1948 to create a “found” or “distilled” poem. You may only add THREE words that are not actually written in the Prologue. You may rearrange, repeat, break apart, and add verb endings to words. TYPE UP your final poem, single spaced in 12-point font. Give credit to Larry Watson, the author of Montana 1948.

2. Make a visual to accompany your found poem. It does not have to match your poem literally. It is more important that it represent the TONE of your found poem. It can be a drawing, painting, magazine collage, digital photo, PhotoShop montage, anything visual.

Your poem and visual should be final versions–polished and professional-looking. They will be displayed in the hallway for all to see. Make sure your name is on both!

Friday, November 16

1. Answer the 9 questions on Part II of the Reconstruction film in complete sentences on a separate sheet of paper. These will be collected Monday morning in homeroom.

2. Talk to your “I’m In Charge of Celebrations” group members and do whatever writing still needs to be done. Designate ONE person in your group who will

a. type up your completed section, print it out and bring it in Monday morning

b. bring a digital version of your section to school to put on server in Class Shared folder

Everyone in each group will receive a grade on this process. If your group does not have a printed-out version and a version on the server by the end of morning homeroom at 8:30am on Monday, everyone in the group will receive a zero. Don’t let that happen!

Thursday, November 15

This assignment is due tomorrow for all students who viewed the Reconstruction film.

If you missed the film, you MUST attend a make-up screening of the film either during lunch/recess or after school, on a day yet to be determined. Your answers to the questions will be due the day after the make-up screening.

1. Using your notes to guide you, answer the 14 questions on Part I of the Reconstruction film IN COMPLETE SENTENCES on a separate sheet of paper. If you are unsure about a question, call a friend for guidance.
