9th Grade – Spanish 1

SPANISH I – 9th Grade

Objectives:

The goal of this course is the development of competency in listening, speaking, reading and writing -moving from simple phrases and sentences towards complex paragraphs and then on to cohesive essays. Emphasis in class is placed on conversation and comprehension, as well as on intensive development of basic vocabulary and grammar, including verb conjugation and usage in the present, preterit, imperfect and future tenses. Students are introduced to Hispanic culture and an appreciation for diversity and vitality of the Spanish-speaking world.

Final Project:

Internet/library research and written comparative analysis on aspects of Spanish and Latin American music.

Assessment:

Homework is assigned everyday. Weekly quiz and Final Exam at the end of the each trimester. Grades will be an average of:

– Class participation and homework:         25%

– Quizzes (Oral and Written):                           25%

– Final Project:                                             25%

– Final Exam:                                             25%

Materials:

Students are required to keep a notebook for class notes and they must have the Amsco Review text in class everyday.
