Welcome to the 5th and 6th Grade Band!

The aim of our band class is to expand our musical skills into the realm of jazz. For us this will mean a broad definition of what it means to play jazz and will include Blues, Latin, Funk and Rock music.
We will encounter the language of these musical styles in the following ways:
Guitarists and Pianists will learn new chord voicings and comping rhythms.
Bassists will learn to create tradtional blues and jazz bass lines.
Drummers will incorporate authentic swing, funk and latin rhythms as well as how to best fullfill their role in a rhythm section.
Horn players will learn appropriate phrasing and articulation styles.
All musicians will develop their lanugage for improvisation. We will start with the blues language and gradually move to more sophisticated styles like be-bop and modal playing.
Because we meet as a group only once a week it will be important for all musicians to check the blog regularly as Matt will on a weekly basis post practice requirements for the upcoming class.
