Is Phil Jackson the Root of the Knicks’ Problems?

By Cameron Krakowiak

For the Knicks, 2017 has been one of their worst years. Many Knicks players have been injured this year, with their star player, Carmelo Anthony, being hurt the past 2 out of 3 seasons. Moreover, the Knicks haven’t had a record above .500 since the 2012-13 year. This year has been particularly unsatisfactory, with a record of 19 and 29. The Knicks are now #11 seed down from #3-#7 seed earlier this season.

All of this serves to prove the extent to which President Phil Jackson, 11-time NBA champion, has been unsuccessful since coming to NY. Although Jackson promised when he came to New York two and a half years ago that he would reroute the team and bring them a championship (not seen since 1973) they have not been to playoffs since 2012. To make matters worse, Jackson has caused havoc in the Knicks clubhouse, with rumors circling that Carmelo Anthony and other players will be traded in the near future.

In the end, there is much uncertainty as to how the Knicks are going to fare in the future as a rebuilding playoff team. One of the big questions that remains to be answered is whether Carmelo Anthony will be traded for Kevin Love or another younger player. Unfortunately, if the Knicks continue on their losing streak, President Jackson might be heading back to Los Angeles.
