Project by: Mason Rosse (10th Grade)
Project Advisor: Nick Wight
Student(s)’s Advisor(s): Daniel Li

Description of the Project: Hip Hop was started and grown by producers, they were necessary to the development of the genre. In the beginning, the producers were running the show, but as time went on, they often got and continue to get overshadowed by rappers. I wanted my project to highlight 3 very influential and important producers over time.

Final Reflection on Learning: I learned that there are so many producers that go unappreciated despite the fact that they changed the way hip hop developed as a genre. As an aspiring producer myself, I learned that often I will go unnoticed, and like every other producer, I have to come to terms with that.

Update on Progress from Weeks 1-3:

I met with Nick to brainstorm how the project should look in its final form. Starting the research on different important/influential producers.

Update on Progress from Weeks 4-6:

I now know which producers I want to highlight, but I am still researching techniques about each of them. Starting to make beats on the ones that I know are going to go in the final project. This part is more individual work, but Nick was helpful in organizing my thoughts and keeping me on track.

Update on Progress from Weeks 7-9:

I changed some of the producers and finished up all of the research. I now finished the beats for all of the producers. I now have everything for the slideshow. I worked with Nick on figuring out the layout of each slide and finished everything up.

  1. Approved! We began the structuring and investigative stages of this HP during T2 and looking forward to working toward the final product!

  2. Mason,
This project will serve as a great reference for students that are looking to sharpen their producer skills, for sure. Great job outlining all of the techniques and vocabulary involved, and for shining light on each producer’s innovation and artistry.
