Stephen Biesty’s Cross-Sections Castle-The way that the carpenter made holes was with an awl. An awl was like a drill bit, the only difference was there was a handle you turn-There was a hierarchy of stonemasons. the first was a rough mason, he just cut simple shapes, like blocks or spheres. Next was the free masons, he took the rough shapes that the rough mason dd and made them smoother and more detailed. Finally there was the master stonemason, he barley did any work, all he did was supervise the work spaces and try to correct anything that had gone wrong-The stonemasons had there own work space, there the cut stone the basket boys brought stone to them from the quarry, and the master mason had his little perch.
