Pageant Planning Document
My Story: I was born in Iraq but there was war and my father was forced to fight in it even though he was a stonemason. They made him go because he was strong and could wield a sword. He died while fighting the Crusaders. So we set off to go to Spain. We didn’t know how long it would take but we left anyways. During our journey we walked through Northern Africa and when we were in Libya we decided to stop and take a break. We stayed in a town there for a year. While I was there I didn’t have much to do so my mother told me to get work. I went to town looking for work until someone asked me if I wanted to be a stonemason. I had been searching all day and I had found nothing, so I said yes. I became an apprentice. I was having fun learning and building until people attacked our town. Me, my mother, and my siblings ran away and I didn’t finish my training.
(In the space below, describe the story of how you came to the guild and your specific area of work focus):

My script:
Oh hello towns person, I am Santiago and I am drawing plans for the cathedral. I am an architect. I draw plans for important buildings and I also make sure everything is going well in the construction of the new building. When you’re drawing plans for a cathedral for example, you must think about other cathedrals and think of a way to make the design better and sturdier (look for flaws.) Building on top of ideas is very important, so when you change something you try and make it better than the last one. I am the architect and if you would like to learn about stone carving you can see one of the other stonemasons that works with me such as Alison Geoffrey.
Notes:
1st video
-When designing a cathedral first you do the ground plans and then the elevations, (the walls windows and roofs.)
-The design process was a big mixture of trail and error and evolved a lot.
-Once the stonemasons made the proportions of stones and of the building work could be started.
-Once the proportions were done the stonemasons had to tell everyone them so they showed them drawings and models.
2nd video
-When people found Romanesque work they changed it and evolved it around the world. Pretty much every style of architecture evolved from something else, Greek was based off of Egyptian art and Roman was based off of both of those.
Script:
Pier starts and then I talk about what i’m doing and about the proportions and a little about Romanesque and the pass it to Pier.
