NaT: FiNAL REFLECTiON

I think that overall, both of the workshops that I taught went very well. I personally had a lot of fun teaching the class and I hope that the kids had fun with the Democracy and writing on the sidewalk outside. It’s still there! Many people stopped to look and ask what we were doing and many people complimented it. I thought the concept of being a teacher for two hours was fun, but what just tired me out was that we had to do the exact same one again. It certainly was a challenge, but I think I handled it well. Both I and the children enjoyed writing on the sidewalk. But I hated it when someone walked on our work. I found it demeaning.

5. What went well with your set up groups? What are your thoughts about the assemblies?

6. Comment on the process that led up to the Teach-In? What did you like? What suggestions do you have for next year?

7. Anything else?

PEN America-NaT-Interview

Today, we went to the PEN America branch today for the third time to get an interview with Stacey Leigh. We had many questions, especially Danica, who had 3 pages full of questions. Josh had about 12 questions, and I had 1 page with about 8 really long questions. The way it worked was that since Josh and I weren’t that much into the conversation, so Danica read all of her questions, and we still listened intently even though we weren’t much for the conversation. Only a few times, Josh and I asked some questions. That was mainly what we did in that visit.

Nat-2/5/10-PEN America

On Friday Morning, Danica, Josh, Catherine, and I went to one of the PEN America Branches in New York. We weren’t sure at first if anyone would be there because it was so early. And then, coincidentaly, we saw Stacey Leigh in the elevator carrying the supplies upstairs. As soon as we got upstairs, she gave us a quick tour of the place and what the organization does. Also about many other imprisoned writers Such as Liu Xiaobo, Zhao Shiying, and why they were imprisoned. We then helped set up chairs for the Bank Street Schools session with Stacey. We also gave them ideas to write about.
