Independent Reading Check-In Questions

BEGINNING CHECK-IN
Date a new page in your notebook and write:
- The title and author of your book
- Number of pages you’ve read so far
- The page where you will stop and write your midpoint
Respond to the following prompts:
- This book is just right for me because…

MIDPOINT CHECK-IN
Date a new page. Write your title, author, and the number of pages you’ve read so far.
Respond to the following questions:
- What’s the hardest thing the main character has to do, or what does s/he worry about most?
- Write about a time when you felt yourself rooting for, laughing with, or mad at a character in the book.
- What would you do next if you were the main character?
- What might make that hard for the character to do?
- How do you think the story will end? Why do you think that?

ENDPOINT CHECK-IN
Date a new page. Write the title and author of your book.
- Did the predictions you made at your midpoint come true? How close were you? Explain.
- Write about another time you felt yourself rooting for, laughing with, or mad at a character in the book.
- Write about something that changed for the character over the course of the book.
- Did the character learn anything about his/herself, her/his family, or the world around him/her?
- What specifically did you like or not like about the book?

AFTER YOUR ENDPOINT, WRITE A BOOK REVIEW!
We’ll do this next week. We are going to create a new Edmodo group.
Your review should be one short paragraph. Describe the plot (no spoilers!), explain specifically what you liked or didn’t like about the book, and say whether you would recommend it to others. You can also give the book zero to five stars. Write in complete sentences, use proper punctuation and grammar, and be thoughtful!

Come Visit Us This Week!

We are so excited for you to visit the classroom this week. The days to come in are Tuesday – Friday from 8:30 – 8:45 each morning.

You can come any or all of the days to check out what’s going on these days in 4th grade.

Some things to look for –

Our Underground Railroad Historical Fiction. Some are on the bulletin board outside the classroom and some are in the classroom.
