Election Excitement

Dear Families,

We’re sure you’ve been hearing a lot at home about the exciting work the students have been doing the past few days in school. We have a lot to share with you in the next couple of days. It has been great to see the students’ enthusiasm for their work and the election in general.

Just a few quick examples… Several students brought in this morning’s newspaper to share. We were thrilled to see them spontaneously pouring through the paper to break down and better understand the results of last night’s election:

After watching parts of Romney’s and Obama’s speeches, we discussed what it means for “Red States” and “Blue States” to work together. Many students spoke to the importance of collaboration. One student talked about how the president has to work together with congress in order to get things done, even if they disagree. Another mentioned an argument at a dinner party with the understanding that it would have been more effective if the conversation was cordial. One commented, “After the [American] Revolution, we came together. After the election, we should come together too.”

In the coming days, we’ll share more with you about the mock election and exit polling. For now, if you haven’t already, check out our Instagram feed.
