Hamster Princess, by Ursula Vernon

imgres-1The book that I read is called Hamster Princess, by Ursula Vernon. The main characters are called Princess Harriet and Ratshade. Harriet is not an average princess. When Harriet was only a tiny baby, a witch who is named Ratshade. cursed her so that when she was at the age of twelve, she would prick her finger but it also meant she would sleep for a very long time.  The curse made her invincible, but it also meant what I told you before, she would sleep for a very long time. The settings of the book are Harriet’s parents’ castle, her parents’ village, in which the name of her village is Hamster Vill, and other Kings’ villages in which are friend’s parents villages

One important part of the book is when Harriet gets cursed. It meant nothing could hurt her until she was twelve years old. Another important part of the book is what she does with the power. The power is invicibility.  Everyone started calling her Crazy Princess Hamster Bone because of some of the things she did like: jump off the highest tower in their village and attacking trolls and ogres.

One event that changed the story is when Harriet swung Ratshade into the spinning wheel  and Ratshade got cursed instead of Harriet. Also when Harriet found a prince because that is what made the story find an ending because she got a friend too. An adjective to describe Harriet is that she is brave. She is brave because she is a risk taker. She jumps off towers in the kingdom and in the Hamster village, people don’t do that. Harriet is strong because she fights ogres and swings Ratshade into the spinning wheel.

I liked Hamster Princess because the author threw out amazing ideas. One reason I did not like the book is the author would throw out  too many amazing ideas, which made it hard to follow. It was like too many facts just like this: there was a cow, and then a pig and then a chicken and then a cat and then the cow pooped. I  give this book four stars because sometimes the book was confusing, and it was like the pages were in the wrong order. I liked Hamster Princess because it was really heart warming.

Arnie The Doughnut: Bowling Alley Bandit, by Laurie Keller

61uZ2PjMQXL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_The title of the book that I read is called Arnie The Doughnut: Bowling Alley Bandit by Laurie Keller. The main characters of this book are Arnie, Mr. Bing and Peezo. The problem is that Mr. Bing’s bowling ball got stolen and nobody knows who stole it. The book takes place at  Lemon Lanes bowling alley.

There are many important events that happened in the book. One important isevent is that someone stole Mr. Bing’s bowling ball. This event is important because Mr. Bing needed to use it to win. The 2nd big event is the Bing Bats the bowling team won the finals of the bowling tournament. This is important because Mr. Bing never won a championship and now he did. One more big event is when Arnie finds Mr. Bing’s stolen bowling ball. Another big event is when Arnie decides to help Mr. Bing find his bowling ball after he wanted to help find the bowling ball. Arnie is really talented because he can sing a lot of songs. Like Take Me Out for Some Bowling it’s such a great song. Also he is always determined because when he accused some one who wasn’t the bandit he did not give up.

I enjoyed the book because it was really funny when Arnie said he could not bowl because he is smaller than a bowling ball. It was also funny when Arnie met Einstein and Einstein said, “You + bowling = impossible” and there were a lot of other funny things too. That is why my rating for this book is FIVE STARS!!

The Sisters Grimm, by Michael Buckley

176327I read a book called The Sisters Grimm by Michael Buckley. The central  characters names are Sabrina and Daphne Grimm. The complication in this book is that a giant carries away their grandmother and the grandmother’s friend, Mr. Canis. The Grimm family lives in a small town called Ferry Point Landing.

The kids try to stop the giant and save their grandmother. There is a giant killer named Jack, (from Jack and the Beanstalk ) that tries to help them save their grandmother. Charming is another character that Sabrina and Daphne think is mean, he is an important character and is the mayor of Ferry Point Landing. When the sisters were trying to find their grandmother, they found a magic mirror that helped along the sisters journey. The sisters have very different personalities, Daphne is happy most of the time and a little goofy while Sabrina is a small grump and hates bullies. “I love these t-shirts the are so cute,” said Daphne when talking about their new clothes. “They make me want to barf,” said Sabrina after looking at the new t-shirts.

I enjoyed the book because It had a lot of twists and turns; and I liked the personality of the main characters. I also enjoyed it because in one part, one of Sabrina’s enemies turned into a close friend, and one of Sabrina’s friends turned into an enemy. I would recommend it to people who like fiction and fairy tales. I would give it four and a half stars (out of five).

I TOTALLY FUNNIEST, By James Patterson

51KQihg1QYL._SX316_BO1,204,203,200_I TOTALLY FUNNIEST by James Patterson, is about the main characters and comedy contests. The main characters are Jamie Grimm, Gilda Gold, Joey Gaynor and Jimmy Pierce. Jamie is a middle school kid who is in a wheelchair and is very funny. His friend Pierce is a brainiac, Gaynor is cool and Gilda is gutsy. Jamie has been in many comedy contests before and the main problem is that he’s scared he’s going to lose the final contest.  The setting of the book, I TOTALLY FUNNIEST, takes place in Long Beach, NY. Jamie also goes to Hollywood for the final contest.

Jamie is very nervous about the final contest because it’s on TV and it has the biggest crowd he’s ever seen.  If Jamie wins, he gets one million bucks and a TV show. His cousin, Stevie Kosgrov, is a bully but he is protecting Jamie at school because he wants half of Jamie’s one million bucks that Stevie thinks Jamie is going to win. Jamie’s friends are mad at him because he’s not hanging out with them as much as before. “I’m pretty sure we’ll all be friends again as soon as this whole comedy contest is over. I hope so. But right now, I need to focus on THE FINALS” said Jaime.

I did not like this book as much as the other books in this series, but it was still good. The whole entire book was based on the final contest. At the beginning of the book all they really talk about is the final contest. Around the middle of the story for three or five chapters they were about Jamie going to Hollywood. At the end of the book, well I can’t tell you the end so all say the contest was too short. I would recommend this book to nine and ten year olds because they use some bathroom words but it is ok for them because it is very funny. I would give this book four stars. By the way this is the THIRD BOOK IN THE SEIRES SO READ THE FIRST TWO BOOKS FIRST they’re I FUNNY and I EVEN FUNNIER!!!!

Shouldn’t You Be In School?

bdak-square-1536The author of this book is Daniel Handler. The main character is a boy named Lemony Snicket. The main problem is that a villain named Hang fire is causing a lot of problems such as kidnapping, causing fires, and countless deaths. This all takes place in a town named Stained by the sea which was once a beautiful place when the sea was there now the Sea is gone, drained away.

The plot of the book is amazing it is very mysterious because there are unsolved mysteries, joyful because you can really enjoy this book, and entertaining because you can feel like you are right there with them. The main plot is Hang fire’s treachery he has committed countless amounts of crimes and countless amounts of death and fatalities.

The main character makes two very big decisions number one is deciding to stay in Stained by the sea and investigate the number of crimes committed by Hang fire. Number two is being the lead investigator for the sea project. “I elect to keep the sea or it will affect wildlife in a way that cannot be fixed”.

I really enjoyed this book and i hope others do too. The reason I love this book so much is because the book is filled with mystery, adventure, and big decisions. I recommend this book to 3rd grade and above because at some points the book uses big words that 2nd and below might not understand. I personally would give this book a 4 stars out of 5 stars. checkout the website, www.danielhandler.com

Nicholas And The Gang, By Rene Goscinny

512g0WMD1nL._SX337_BO1,204,203,200_If you love to laugh read the book Nicholas and The Gang by Rene Goscinny! The main character in my book is a boy named Nicholas. Nicholas is a boy who lives in Paris France and the problem is that Nicholas  always gets into some kind of trouble.

Nicholas and his friends always end up getting into a fight one way or another and end up in the principal’s office. One of his friends even ended up getting expelled. During these times Nicholas decides that he wants to run away multiple times but he always stops himself. Usually because he wants dinner and ends up running back home.

One time he got suspended and then he decided that he would try to do his best every time he could. ( That does not mean he did though). “ You got detention again didn’t you Nicholas,” said Nicholas’ mom. This is what made Nicholas want to do better.

I liked this book because it is so funny. I laughed so hard when Nicholas was saying bad words in front of someone who did not know any English and started repeating those words . I also laughed when Nicholas tried doing handstands and fell flat on his face. I also liked when Nicholas said his favorite meal is the sandwich he sneaks out to the recess yard. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to laugh because the book is so funny. Students who have a hard time with school would love this book because they might be in the same position. I would give this book 4 1/2  stars because this book is so funny and humorous.

The School for Good and Evil, By Soman Chainani

16248113  The book I read was called The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani. Agatha and Sophie the main characters, are from a town called Gavaldon. One day they are taken away at night by the school master. The school master runs the “School for Good and Evil.” Everyone at Gavaldon thought Sophie would go to Good and Agatha would go to Evil.  There was one “mistake” though, Agatha ended up going to the school for Good being clueless of what to say and do, “She did the first thing she thought of and delivered a swift, loud fart.” And Sophie ended up at the school for Evil looking like a pretty princess.

Agatha wants to get home but Sophie wants to stay thinking that the girls will switch schools. Sophie always tried to be good. She would use Agatha as one of her deeds for being good. She used Agatha by tricking her that she was her friend. She did that by going to Agatha’s house everyday and give Agatha her favorite cookies. She used Agatha because Agatha’s father left when she was young and she lived in a graveyard with her mother who was a doctor that had no patients.  Agatha was shy and had no friends except for maybe Sophie. She had a cat named Reaper that kept her company, but she had a very weary life. She never left the graveyard because people made fun of her and called her Evil when she walked by.

Sophie had lost her mother when she was young and had a very selfish father who was never proud of Sophie because she was a girl. Sophie’s father always wanted a boy so he could be worshiped and have more similarities with him. Sophie dreamt often about going to the School for Good and getting a handsome prince. She wanted to have her own fairy tale. Sophie is also obsessed with beauty. Every day she would put makeup and lipstick on. Boys didn’t care that she was selfish and rude they just thought she was pretty.

I really enjoyed this book, it was funny, exciting and sad. I would definitely recommend this book to someone who likes fairy tales, chapter books, and illustrations.

I rate this book five stars!

Charlie Joe Jackson’s Guide To Not Reading! By Tommy Greenwald

81tobuDxVNLI’m reading Charlie Joe Jackson’s Guide to Not Reading by Tommy Greenwald. The main Character is Charlie Joe Jackson. Charlie comes up with a lot of crazy plans, gets in trouble but never really learns. The book takes place in Charlie’s school and home. Charlie has a  problem. He hates reading!

To get out of reading Charlie had a deal with this kid named Timmy. For five years Charlie would buy Timmy a ice cream sandwich and Timmy would read all of Charlie’s books over the semester. But Timmy told his mom about the deal because he didn’t what to do it any more. Then Charlie got in a lot of trouble because Timmy’s mom told Charlie’s mom what was going on for the past 5 years.

You would think Charlie would have learned his lesson but NO he didn’t. For the end of the year assignment, he had to write this thing called a Position Paper. For the Position paper you have to pick a topic and write a five page essay on it, and read a bunch of books. Charlie chose to do his Position paper on Cliques. He got one of his nerdy friends and bribed his dream girl to go out with each other. So he could do his report based on them. Then, he tricked his nerdy friend to read the books for him and tell him what happened. But he got caught, again. His punishment was… well you’ll have to read the book if you want to know.

I enjoyed the book because, Charlie would never give up on what he wanted to do. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy comedy books. In my opinion this book gets four out of five stars because it was hilarious and interesting.

In A Glass Grimmly

ina glass grimly

Lucia

This summer I read In A Glass Grimmly by Adam Gidwitz. there are a lot of different settings, but the major one is in a kingdom near England called Märchen. The main characters are a boy named Jack and a girl named Jill. The main conflict for Jack, is that all the boys in the kingdom make fun of him because he always follows around a boy named Marie. They made up a song about it that goes like this: “Marie had a little lamb..” and you probably know the rest (lamb can also mean someone who follows people). Jill is the princess in the same kingdom and she also got humiliated because she was tricked into being naked in front of the whole kingdom. This happened because a dishonest merchant was pretending to sell the finest silk that could only be seen by the people with the most refined eyes. So the queen had the dress made for Jill, who wore it outside. She did not actually have anything on.

An event that changed the direction of the story is when  Jack has to sell his only friend Milky the cow. I think this changes the direction of the story because now Jack does not have any friends and he sells the cow for magic beans. When Jack and Jill meet an old lady, they have to make a big decision: either agree to get a glass and get all they ever wanted, but they will die if they don’t get it, or don’t agree to anything and just live thier nomal lives again but you don’t get all you ever wanted. I can not tell you what they choose but how I know they have to make this decsion is when it says “Now will you swear on your very lives to get the glass?”. The problem does get solved at the end of the book. How I know this is when it says “the boys from the village sat beside Elsie and her little sister.” so they were friends with them now.

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed it because it has lots of action and adventure. I also enjoyed it because it is really funny in some parts. And the third reason I enjoyed it is that it has a lot of fantasy. This book is in a series,it is the second book. I would recomend this book to readers who love fantasy because a lot of the book has fantasy in it. I would rate this book five stars, I  really enjoyed it!

From The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg

511Y1shNp+L._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_ This summer I read From The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg. The story takes place in a laundromat, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a school, a fountain, and Mrs, Frankweiler’s house. I think the story takes place in the present. The main characters in the book are Claudia and Jamie, who are brother and sister, Mrs. Frankweiler and her lawyer, Saxonberg. The main problem is that Claudia and Jamie are trying to find out if a sculpture of an angel in the Met was made by Michelangelo.

The story is about Claudia and Jamie running away from home and staying at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. An event that changed the direction of the story was when Claudia and Jamie saw Angel for the first time. Claudia wanted to learn more about Angel and Michelangelo so when she learned that Mrs. Frankweiler sold the statue to the museum for $250 she decided to find her. Claudia made a big decision by running away. At the end they resolved the problem of learning about Angel from Mrs. Frankweiler.

I “kind of” enjoyed my book because only a few parts were interesting, like when the kids were at Mrs. Frankweiler’s house and they had to find the sketch of Angel. I didn’t love the book because I thought it got less interesting when Claudia and Jamie started to learn about Angel. One more reason why I didn’t love my book was because it ended without you knowing what Claudia and Jamie did with the sketch of Angel. I think any type of reader would enjoy this book because it doesn’t really have a specific genre. I would rate this book three stars.
