I Funny by James Patterson

 This is my last book review of fourth grade. I chose to do a diorama because I enjoy working with clay and model magic.  Well here it is. This scene is important because this is the first time that Jamie performs at a comedy completion. Also, this is when his friends get mad at him for making jokes about them during his act. He says. “Who needs joke books when I have you guys?” Jamie regrets making fun of his friends, but When Jamie gets home, all of his friends are there. Jamie says that he is sorry and will never do that again. They all have a party and are happy.

Henry and Ribsy,By Beverly Cleary

For our very last book blog this year, our teachers said you can choose any kind of book review. One choice was an animation. So I choose to do a Lego animation. I choose the part in the book when Ribsy gets chased by a policeman. I choose this part for two reasons. Reason one: it’s the first chapter, reason two: I like how so much happens in this chapter.

If you did not get what happened, then here’s a long explanation: Henry and his Dad drive to a shop to get their car checked. They bring their dog Ribsy. After they get out, Henry wants to be in the car while it gets checked. His dad is fine with it. His dad goes to the store to buy something right across the street. Ribsy waits in the shop with a bone. Then a police car comes and the policeman comes out. He goes to the same store his dad goes to for milk. Ribsy notices that the policeman left his lunch in the car. He goes into his lunch and eats the chicken and croissant!!!!

Some frames later the Policeman comes back with his milk. He finds Ribsy eating his lunch! He drops his cup and starts chasing Ribsy. The policeman trips and Ribsy eats the apple from his lunch! Ribsy ate all his lunch. The policeman gets FURIOUS! They keep on running, but the milk the policeman spilled made a little puddle and he slipped on that too. Then they run off the Lego board. Later Henry’s friend Scooter comes by and checks his bike. They say hi, then he leaves. Ribsy come back and runs into Scooter. The Policeman helps him up and then goes back to chasing Ribsy. Finally he dives for Ribsy and he misses!

Ribsy runs into the Dad. The Dad makes the policeman happy again by giving him a croissant. Then the car is done with its check up and then they leave. Then everyone leaves. Then its empty. Then it’s THE END.   This ending part is important because at the end the Dad is the one who stops this half fight and half chase. This tells you that Henry is not the only one who has to take care of Ribsy. Also I tried to make this as accurate as the book.

 I chose this moment because it was the part when everything in Peter’s life changes. What changes is his parents tell him that they are moving to New Jersey and they are having a baby. Peter is not keen with the idea though. He literally freaks out. He thinks the baby is going to be just like Fudge, his naughty little brother.  In New York City, a family living right next to Central Park lived in a normal apartment. There is a mom, that is just really a mom, a dad, that is just really a dad. A main character, that really is called Peter. A little brother, his name is Fudge. They are a normal family. Until something happens…

Matilda By Roald Dahl

MatildaThe title of my book is called Matilda and it’s by Roald Dahl. The main character is Matilda. The main problem is that the Trunchbull, who is the headmistress in Matilda’s first grade class, is really mean and strict to everyone and she causes most of the problem. Her rules are Terrible.One of Trunchbulls rules is if she thinks a child did something wrong, she puts that child in a closet that has lots of nails sticking out of it. The story takes place in a couple of places which are in Matilda’s house, Ms. Honey’s (Matilda’s nice teacher’s) classroom, in the cafeteria, and Ms. Honey’s house.

About in the middle of the book Matilda finds out she has powers, and she can move thing with her mind. Now Matilda probably feels really amazing. She probably plays around with her powers when she’s alone. The only person she showed her powers to was Ms. Honey. I think this is important because if I had superpowers I could move thing with my mind like, move my jacket to the coset. I would use it all the time so I don’t have to do a lot of things like, move my jacket to the coset. My point is that being able to move things with her mind is awesome. Three really important parts of book are: Mrs. honey’s parents are dead. She’s not sure how her dad died. Matilda is so smart and she’s so small.

Matilda is smart because she knows all of the multiplication combinations, and because she knows how to talk to her parents without getting angry. She is calm because she never gets angry at her family. Matilda is very curious, because when she went to Ms. Honey’s house for the first time, she asked her a lot of questions. One of the best quotes Matilda said was, “Dad you made exactly four thousand three hundred and three pounds and fifty pence altogether,” because she’s making it seem like she’s smarter than her dad. Because her dad thought kids can’t be smart, so he thought that Matilda lied by looking at his sheet with the answers.

I like this book because it’s not scary. I also like this book because it’s about a really nice girl. I recommend this book because it’s not about a ordinary girl. I also recommend this book because it’s full of surprises. The movie Matilda is just like the book. The only difference is that in the book the mom is fat and the dad is skinny, but in the movie the dad is fat and the mom is skinny. I also think the book Matilda is similar to the movie Annie because because both of their care takers are mean. I’d give the book five stars.

The Surprise Attack of Jabba The Puppet: A Origami Yoda Series by Tom Angleberger

51qv88fYzCL._SX317_BO1,204,203,200_The book I read is called The Surprise Attack of the Jabba the Puppett. It is part of the Origami Yoda series. The book was written by Tom Angleberger. In my book, the main group (because there are a lot of main characters) is the Rebellion. But the character I’m focusing on is Dwight, the owner of Origami Yoda. The big problem is that on the capital state test, Mcquarrie Middle School is doing really bad. So to pass the grades, everybody’s activities are taken away and instead replaced with FunTime. This doesn’t sound so bad, but it’s just  short  for Fundamentals. FunTime is a boring, head spinning, cheesy video with a singing calculator (Gizmo),  Professor Funtime, and a break dancing dictionary.

The Rebellion of little Star Wars finger puppets are going to stop FunTime and make their principal (Mrs. Rabasski) give back their activities. Some of the puppets are Han Foldo, Fortune Wookiee, Darth Paper, and Art-2-D-2. The setting of this book is on Earth at their middle school.

One big event was when the Rebellion sent a letter to Mrs. Rabbasski to ask for their activities back. When she called the main Rebellioners (including Dwight) to her office, they were definitely in trouble. When the Rebellioners got to the office, Mrs. Rabbaski tried to compromise. Since that did not work, she decided to call their parents. Dwight really did not want his parents to know about this. But Master Yoda (Dwight’s puppet) still believed in the Rebellion, so he stayed in the Rebellion. Another important event was when the head people of the Rebellion did not know that Jabba the Hut was behind the FunTime screen and kept turning FunTime on when Mrs. Rabbaski was speaking! It was a silent victory but Mrs. Rabbaski thought it was them!

The one of the words I would use to describe Dwight is weird, because Dwight has his own finger puppet and believes that it is alive. Dwight is incompetent at having manners and listening to people, like when Dwight started to try to kiss his elbow in the middle of class. He is also passionate  at being himself, and going with the flow. Dwight is very passionate in what he does, which is being the leader of the Rebellion, known as Captain Dwight.

I enjoyed this book because the plot was very interesting, and all of the characters had really great finger puppets and were great at playing them. I recommend this book to readers who love Star Wars, comics, chapter books, and funny, fantastic plots. I think this book that is similar to the novel Archie, because the main characters are both going through similar issues in school. Like that sometimes in the book Archie (the main character) would go against their principal in situations. Like when Veronica and Betty (Archie’s friends)  wanted their newspaper a different way and had to have this whole trial with their principal. That is very similar to what’s happening to the Rebellion at their school I would rate this book 5 stars *****.

I TOTALLY FUNNIEST, by James Patterson

51KQihg1QYL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_Are you really low on jokes? Well here’s a book that can help you and it is a great read. I read I TOTALLY FUNNIEST by James Patterson. The main character in this story is Jamie Grimm. Jamie is going onto the final rounds of the world’s funniest kid comic, and he needs to be extremely funny to win the competition. The competition is in Hollywood, and that is very far away from his home, Long Island. The time period is modern, so it isn’t a history kind of book.

 

Jamie loves comedy, and he is really great at it, that is what makes him Jamie. For example, “He is funny,” said someone else. Plus, everywhere in the book he says a joke. For example, when he is at the diner he tells a joke to every customer. Jamie is a disabled kid in a wheelchair, so he likes to help all the kids like him, because he understands what it is like. An example is, when all the people in Long Beach were a disappointed about a storm, because it had  been a terrible tragedy, he helped them out by giving them a laugh. He also admits when he has done something wrong, like when he said, “I was a jerk.” And then his friend said,“I know.” An interesting part was when he forgot what he said during his comedy act. He said jokes, and then forgot if people laughed or what he even said. So when they announced the winners of that round, he had no idea if he did well. Another interesting thing was when he went mean.  A very, very, kind guy, went mean. (Started to be mean and selfish to his friends and family.) I didn’t think a competition could separate him from his friends and family. And Jamie has to choose between concentrating on the competition or being with his friends and family. He has a lot of trouble trying to do both.

 

I like this book because it was different, but it was also good. I normally read Action and Adventure, but this was more, Comedy. An example is, the title. I TOTALLY FUNNIEST. It really made it clear this was a different type of book. Then you read it and it is about a guy who loves comedy. I also liked it because it started with a guy who was a normal person, living in Long Island, then he becomes a famous comedian. For example, this is a kids reaction when he sees him, “Hey, you’re Jamie Grimm!” It is everyone’s reaction actually. I also like that the author included himself in the story for a little while. I would definitely recommend it to everyone who sets eyes on it. It is a comedy book, and it is really good so at least read a chapter of it. I would recommend this book to kids, that are  8-14. But there are a few bathroom words, so just be careful of that. I have never ever read or experienced any kind of thing like that so it was cool to read those books. But, before you read I TOTALLY FUNNIEST, make sure to first read I FUNNY and  I EVEN FUNNIER first. I would give this book five stars.

The Princess, The Scoundrel, And The Farm Boy. By: Alexandra Bracken

urlIn a library not so far away… Alexandra Bracken’s The Princess, The Scoundrel, and The Farm boy. The novel that I am reviewing is part of a series that has three books in it, and if you love Star Wars this is definitely a good book for you to try. The main characters in this book are Luke Skywalker (the farm boy) princess Leia (the princess) and Han Solo (the scoundrel). The rebels consist of these three characters and more rebel soldiers. The rebels are trying to change the fact that the evil rule the galaxy. This book takes place in a galaxy far, far, away in the future.

Han Solo’s actions are effective but yet very subtle, he steps in at the last minute and helps the rebels get the victory. He is also very kind and aids the rebels supplies. The most important parts in the story are where. The most important part in the story is when Han Solo joins the rebel’s cause. Where Princess Leia joins the rebellion. the ending is very important. The main character makes the very big decision that was very surprising and changed the path of the story.

I did not really enjoy this book because I feel this book was not really the strong point of the series but  I definitely recommend So You Want To Be A Jedi? by Adam Gidwitz. The genre of this book is fiction. If you like mystery this is a good book for you. I rate this book three stars out of five.

Demon Dentist, By David Walliams

91BL+Jvc8yLAlfred(Alfie) hasn’t been to the dentist in six years! The book I read was called Demon Dentist. It was written by David Walliams. The book is about a kid named Alfie and his problems with dentists. He hasn’t been to the dentist in so long because when he was younger he went to the dentist complaining about a toothache, so the dentist took a look at it. The dentist tried and tried with all his might to pull the tooth out but failed. So he called some people in the waiting room to come in to pull with him, that didn’t work. Then he got the people that worked there to help him, that didn’t work. He got more and more people. It had been weeks maybe even months. FINALLY the tooth came out! Except, that was the wrong one. Poor old Alfie came home with a toothache. He hadn’t gone ever since. Imagine years of not going to the dentist. What would your teeth look like? THEY’ED BE YELLOW! OR BROWN! OR YOU WOULD LOSE ALL YOUR TEETH! Luckily Alfie didn’t lose all his teeth from this, but he did lose some. AND HE HAD brown and yellow teeth too. Yikes! He looked like a hamster that had lost two teeth. Think about that for awhile. If you don’t know what hamster’s teeth look like, then look it up!

 

Alfie is very poor. He has one friend named Gabriela(Gabz), who thinks he’s a wimp. I will not be talking about her because if I talked about her I’d spoil lots of things. Well back to Alfie, his dinner is three crumbs of bread! He lives with his father who is dying because he has bad breathing from working in the mine for many years. Alfie takes care of his father all the time. He buys food, makes sure his father is warm, sees if his breathing is getting better and much more. Alfie is a very nice kid, but he can be very protective. And when he gets protective he can sometimes be a troublemaker. For example, on page 176 and 177 when he is trying to protect himself from a new dentist named Ms. Root. “As Alfie accelerated down the stairs he quickly realised he was on a collision course with the headmaster. Nothing could stop the inevitable happening. THWACK!  The tray whacked into Mr Grey’s ankles.”

 

Everything that Ms. Root has is white, even her CAT! She is VERY VERY VERY  dangerous.For example, she gave Alfie a new toothbrush and toothpaste, but these weren’t the ordinary toothbrush and toothpaste, the toothpaste was like acid! It went right through the ground. And Alfie asked for a soft toothbrush, guess what he got? A TOOTHBRUSH WITH SPIKES STICKING OUT OF IT! How is that a soft toothbrush?! After Alfie figures out what Ms. Root gave him, he knew something was going on.

 

The main problem in this story is that somebody has been taking kids teeth when they put it under their pillow and instead of putting a coin they are putting a bat, spider or a moving eyeball! Alfie is trying to catch the person who is behind this. Alfie puts his friends and family first a lot in the book. At first Alfie didn’t want to solve the mystery but when something happened to him, he started to solve the mystery.

 

A connection I have to this book is that I like to solve mysteries. Even if Alfie didn’t want to solve it in the first place and he just did it because then the town would be safe.

 

I definitely recommend this book! NO doubt about it! The book’s genre was mystery, and funny horror. Well sort of horror.

 

Something that I like about this book is that it is funny, touching and descriptive! I love this book and I think that everyone should read it if they like books that have the things that I just listed. I rate the book five stars out of five stars☆☆☆☆☆!

George’s Marvelous Medicine by Roald Dahl

It is a story about an eight-year-old boy named George who is an only child who lives on a farm far far away from other kids. One afternoon after his mom and dad left, George and his Grandma were left alone. George has one major problem; his Grandma is evil (really really mean). She punishes George for growing so much he tries to shake her up a bit by making her a new medicine.

George dumps out Grandma’s medicine and makes her a new one out of all types of stuff.  He puts in shaving cream, soap, hair removal cream, nail polish, nail polish remover,  toothpaste  and deodorant from the bathroom. Next, he goes to the kitchen he puts in three bottles of gin (a type of alcohol which makes Grandma go crazy), chili peppers and a bottle of dish detergent. This is one of the funniest parts of the story because I can not imagine eating any of these things. The effect of this medicine is that it makes Grandma grow and grow and grow. This is very shocking to George and makes him have the idea to feed it to the animals.

Even though George was not too kind to his Grandma, he is really a kind person. He said  “I would not dare touch the medicine, mom said It could kill a man.” Even Though he wanted to shake Grandma up a bit, He did not want a dead body on my hands.” This is kind because he does want to kill Grandma. He is a bit of a scaredy cat for example he is scared of his own Grandma. George is creative. He is creative because he made his own medicine.

I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend this book. I enjoyed this book because it is really, really funny.  I would recommend this book as a book review book because it is the perfect length. This book is similar to most Roald Dahl books because it have a evil grandma. I would rate this book 4.9 stars.

The Sorcerer’s Secret by Scott Mebus

The series my book is in is called, The Gods Of Manhattan and it’s called Sorcerer’s Secret. It is by Scott Mebus and it is the 3rd book in the series. The main characters are Bridget and Rory Hennessy. But there are many other secondary characters. Rory and Bridget are trying to save Mannahatta from an evil god named William Kieft and his spirits that want to kill all the gods in Mannahatta. Rory and Bridget try to kill him by exposing his deep dark secret that no one knows but him. This book takes place in Inwood, Manhattan and the time period goes from the 1600s – 2008.

One big event that happens is when Rory decides between killing Kieft or saving his mom from death. This was important because his mom means the world to him but if he doesn’t kill Kieft, all good gods and good spirits will die. If the good gods and good spirits die, then the normal people will have no protection from evil. One part I found most important in The Sorcerer’s Secret is when Bridget sees her dad for the first time. This is important because it is amazing that since she was born, her dad ran away, then when she was 9 years old she saw her dad for the first time and later on in the book something very important happened around her dad. One part I also found the most interesting was when Rory finds out his dad’s name. This was interesting because his dad is/was so famous but you would never think that that was his dad. It surprised me that his dad’s name was _______because out of every person in the world, I would NEVER guess that that was his name.

Rory is brave, happy, and angry. Rory is brave because he almost died for his sister to protect her. Rory is also brave because he does not let people push him around. Rory is happy because his family reunited with each other. Rory is also happy because he is a optimist. Rory is angry because someone tries to kill his mother and he loves his mother with all his life. Rory is also angry at his father but also filled with love for his father because he didn’t know his father for a long time and was just getting to know him when he died. “I forgive you, too,” he whispered down his father’s ear “I love you,” and then his father died in Rory’s hands.

I really enjoyed this book because it is a action book. I also enjoyed it because it is about a boy in fourth grade and you can relate to him. I would definitely recommend this book because it makes you want to jump right into the next page. I also would definitely recommend this book because it is a trilogy and it will consume time (if you read quickly) A few books and movies like this are the Percy Jackson series/movie, the Harry Potter series/movie, and The City Of Ember series/movie. It is like these books/movies because they are all action adventures and friendship stories. I would give this book 5 stars ★★★★★ because it is SO good I would actually consider reading it 100 times!
