Crenshaw, by Katherine Applegate

Crenshaw is about a boy, Jackson, in a not so wealthy family who is having some rough times but when he meets a old friend, the rough times get a lot more interesting. When he meets Crenshaw, his old imaginary friend who has come back to Jackson for a reason that Jackson is trying to figure out. Jackson’s parents were forced to move out of their house because they couldn’t pay the rent.

I think that Jackson is very silly, smart, and also really nice. He is silly because who’s imaginary friend would be a surf boarding, skate boarding, and extremely smart cat for a imaginary friend!? He is smart because one he is very good with building and he really wants to be a scientist when he grows up (also when their was a raccoon in the house, he was the one who got it out when everyone was freaking out!). And last but not least he is nice because when his sister woke him up at one in the morning because she couldn’t fall asleep, (this happened about five times throughout the whole book) he just went into her room and read her her favorite book, Lyle.

One night Jackson is playing a made up game called cereal bowl and Jackson sees a giant cat that is jet-skiing which confuses Jackson because he thought that he was way past his imaginary friend. The next night Jackson heard splashing in the bathroom so he decided to check what was going on in there at that late hour. He peeked in, and it was Crenshaw. And from then on, Crenshaw and Jackson have been hanging out more and more and Jackson has been learning more and more about Crenshaw and realizes more and more about how much Jackson needs Crenshaw.

This book is a very interesting book. It is really full of curiosity because it has so many different topics in the book. The reason that I really liked this book because it really changes topic a lot which is really nice because it really it always makes you wonder what is going to happen next. If I had to pick a one to five rate with stars, I would give this book four and a half  stars because of how much it makes you wonder about that jet skiing cat.

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton fits its name perfectly. This is because this book is about a park that recreates animals from the Jurassic period. What kind of animals am I talking about? DINOSAURS!!! There are a lot of characters in Jurassic Park. The characters are (and some were, I mean that some of the characters died) Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler. They are both paleontologists. There is John Hammond who runs the whole park, and his scientist Dr. Wu. There is the lawyer who is part of Ingene. Ingene is an evil corporation that wants to steal the dinosaurs. His name is Genaro. There is an inspector named Malcolm who is figuring out if the park is safe for visitors. He is a scientist that studies chaos theory. Then there is Tim and Lex who are John Hammond’s kids. And Ed Regis who is a scientist who is helping the kids. Jurassic Park  tells the story of an experiment to bring life back to the dinosaurs, a miraculous discovery. But the electric fences have been turned off and the Dinosaurs escape. They start breeding and that slowly leads to the end of the island. Or at least that is my prediction. Set on a tropical island, somewhere near Costa Rica, Jurassic Park takes place in a dangerous park that is filled with bloodthirsty dinosaurs.

Dr. Grant is very intelligent and knows all about dinosaurs. He survived in tough situations, like when the electric fences turned off and they were stuck in the car right next to the tyrannosaur exhibit. The tyrannosaur destroyed the car killing some of the main characters, but Alan Grant survived by not moving a muscle. The dinosaur couldn’t see him while he stood still so the tyrannosaur roared, trying to scare Grant and make him move, but Grant didn’t move, and he and the kids escaped. The plot of the book is that John Hammond hires a lot of people to do all the engineering and complex computers. One person (who dies eventually) who works with the big computer turns off all the power so the electric fences go out and the dinosaurs escape. This person is Dennis Nedry, who is bribed by Dodgson, the founder of Biocon, (an evil corporation competing with Ingene). Alan Grant finds the eggshell of a velociraptor, which means they are breeding, even though Wu has made all the dinosaurs female. When the dinosaurs escape, the velociraptors, the most dangerous dinosaurs, escape.

IF YOU DO NOT WANT FOR ME TO SPOIL THE BOOK DO NOT READ THIS PART.

They kill some of our characters John Arnold who works with the computers, Dennis Nedry (the guy who let the dinosaurs out) trying to steal the dinosaur DNA, and Henry Wu. Then the velociraptors trap Ellie Sattler, Muldoon, Henry Wu, (before he dies) John Hammond and Ian Malcolm, who is badly injured. When the velociraptors are about to chew through the final bar, Tim, Lex, Grant and Gennaro turn the power back on. The velociraptors go for Grant, Tim, Lex and Gennaro but I will tell you about that  later with Grant and his great plan.

YOU CAN READ ON NOW.

I LOVED Jurassic Park!!!  It was so full of action and suspense. I loved the part where the energy was turned off and the T-Rex got loose in the middle of the night, with the tour car right in front of his exhibit. The other part that I LOVED was when Grant had this awesome plan. Grant, Tim, Lex and Gennaro were cornered in the hatchery so Gennaro, Tim and Lex hid while Grant got the poison that was in the hatchery. Grant put the poison inside the dinosaur’s eggs. Then he rolled them toward the velociraptors. They ate the eggs and then saw Grant. They all headed for Grant when one of the three velociraptor’s mouth started foaming with bubbles. There was a chain reaction and they all died. But before the last one perished it nearly nicked Grant’s chest.

I recommend this book greatly to anyone who doesn’t get scared of blood and enjoys dramatic things. And you need to be able to stick to this book because it is a long book and it has some lengthy passages that may be boring about dinosaur DNA that you might not understand. There are not really much connections to my life in this book because this book is fantasy. I have never read a book that talks so much about the DNA of dinosaurs, to keep track of them and to keep them under control. Actually I have never really read a bloody dramatic book that has dinosaurs in it! I would rate Jurassic park… FIVE stars. Yes, I loved this book. It had all the qualities of a book that I would want to read. And of course I would really want to read this book again. Sure it may take a while, but Jurassic Park was amazing. You should read it. If you have the Jurassic instinct that is!

A Grimm Warning, By Chris Colfer

Do you like fairy tales? If so, have you ever wondered what happened to your favorite characters after their story finished? Well, if you keep reading, you’ll find out. This book is the third in the series called, “The Land Of Stories,” by Chris Colfer. Chris Colfer acted in the TV series called Glee.

In this story, the two main characters are Alex and Conner, the Bailey twins. Their father died on their 11th birthday. Freak car accident can happen. Alex and Conner are the grandchildren of the great and powerful Fairy Godmother, the ruler of the fairy-tale world. They have more power than any other magic fairytale character to ever live.

They have many problems to face, with their first being Alex living in the fairy tale world and Conner living in the Otherworld (Earth). Their Grandmother closed the portal between the fairy-tale world and the Otherworld for good, along with the help of the Fairy Council (basically the United Nations except made up of ten people and they are all fairies).

Apparently, the French Grande Armeé is here from the 1800’s, and they didn’t die. They were led into a portal along with all their artillery, and were stuck in there for 200 years. When they finally got to the Land Of Stories, they raised a dragon, which has not been seen for centuries in the fairy-tale world, and the Fairy Godmother is the only one who knows how to slay them. But, due to some unfortunate events, she is veeery sick, and old, and frail, and in a sort of a coma.

When the Grand Armee attacks the Fairy Palace, (The HQ for the Fairy-Tale world) they capture all the monarchs from all the kingdoms. They capture Queen Snow White and King Chandler Charming from the Northern Kingdom, Queen Cinderella, King Chance Charming and Princess Hope from the Charming Kingdom, Queen Sleeping Beauty, King Chase Charming and Princess Ash from the Eastern Kingdom, Red Riding Hood from the Red Riding Hood Kingdom, and Little Bo Peep, who got elected Queen during this same time period, and re-named the kingdom, the Bo Peep Republic, and Prince Charlie Charming from the Charming Kingdom (he’s one of the 4 charming brothers, and dating Red. He turned into a man sized frog, but still acts and talks like a human).

The Grand Armeé threatens to kill all the monarchs if the Fairy Council does not surrender. The Fairy Council does not surrender, but they get all the monarchs to safety by cutting the ropes around them and letting the monarchs fight (the monarchs trained while they were on the secret path, with Jack and Goldilocks as their trainers. Jack and Goldilocks are both outcasts, but they are friends of Alex and Conner’s, which is why the monarchs let Jack and Goldilocks stay). Alex performs some pretty awesome magic, but gets betrayed by the boy she was dating, who told the Armeé about the secret path.

But a few minutes later, the dragon comes, and is controlled by the Masked Man. The Masked Man is a master criminal, but is very evil, which is why General Jacques Marquis took him into the army. At first the General thinks that the dragon is his, but is wrong when he gets a scorching demise caused by the Masked Man. The Masked man takes control of the Armee and orders them to attack. But all of a sudden, with her last energy, the Fairy Godmother comes out of her chamber and kills the dragon. The Masked Man orders his forces to retreat. The battle is over, and the Fairy-Tale world is at peace once again. Alex becomes the new Fairy Godmother, and Conner stays there to become her assistant.

None of them know what the Masked Man is plotting next…

Mrs. Piggle Wiggle by Betty Macdonald

Mrs. Piggle Wiggle helps little girl love to wash dishes. This book is called Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. It is a chapter book that I really like because it’s about kids with problems in life. Kind of. This book is also a series. The series are called Mrs. Piggle Wiggle by Betty Macdonald. This book doesn’t really tell you the setting all I know is that it is in the country because later in the book this doofus guy runs around on a donkey or a horse.  There are lots of main characters but we’ll focus on these two: Mrs. Piggle Wiggle and the little girl.

Mrs. Piggle Wiggle is a old lady who has one cat and one dog and she loves children very much. If a child is acting strange she knows just what to do. For example one little girl hates washing dishes. Once she visited Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. Then she went home and loved doing dishes for the rest of her life. Mrs. Piggle Wiggle is funny and caring. I know she cares about others because she gives cures for kids.

One day, Mrs. Piggle Wiggle was sitting by the living room and wishing she had company. A little girl walked by. She had a suitcase. Mrs. Piggle Wiggle asked her to please come in so she did. “ Why do you look so sad?” Mrs. Piggle Wiggle asked the girl. “Because my mom makes me wash the dishes everyday! So I’m running away from home!” said the girl being overly dramatic. That is one of my favorite parts because she is sobbing over DISHES! So Mrs. Piggle Wiggle said, “I will teach you how to love washing dishes!” Mrs. Piggle Wiggle clapped her hands and led the girl into the kitchen. Mrs. Piggle Wiggle explained this fun game to love washing dishes. “Now, you work for a evil witch who makes you do the dishes every day!” says Mrs. Piggle Wiggle.

The girl gave a disgusted face. “If she finds one single crumb on the floor than you will be thrown into the dungeon!” says Mrs. Piggle Wiggle making scary faces. “So get to work or else the witch will not be happy.” So the girl got to work scrubbing the dishes clean, and by the time she was done, the kitchen was spotless! Than down came Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, dressed up like a witch. The “witch” looked under every table and as she searched for messes, she could not find a single one. The “witch” left and down came the real Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. The girl hugged Mrs. Piggle Wiggle.  And dashed out the door and loved washing dishes for the rest of her life! “Thank you Mrs. Piggle Wiggle,” she said.  “Thank you.”  Later in the book, more kids come back with their problems.
I would give this book 4/four stars. I really enjoyed this book. I recommend this book because It’s funny. Nanny Mcphee is a movie that is related to Mrs. Piggle Wiggle because it is again, a movie about a sitter that saves the day. (Mrs. Piggle Wiggle is way better.)

The Heroes Of Olympus: The Mark Of Athena By Rick Riordan

I read The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan. I think the most important part of the book is when the Greeks meet the Romans because it did or didn’t start a war between the Greeks and Romans. I also think that was important because it’s what starts the prophecy to save the world from the earth goddess Gaea waking. The book is full of action, fantasy, secrets and mystery. The book is part of a series and the series is the best series I’ve ever read: The Heroes of Olympus.

Tales Of The Brothers Grimm And The Sisters Weird by Vivian Vande Velde

Beast Purposing To Beauty

An important event from my book is when the Beauty lied to the Beast so she could get away from him, because she did NOT want to marry him. The lie was, “I must leave because my father is sick”. This is important because the only way the Beast can change back into a real boy is if he gets a kiss from her. She does not know that the beast is a very handsome prince under all that ugly ness.

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate Dicamillo

The Journey of a Bunny Finding his home

Dear reader,

You should read this book. It is an emotional, exciting story about a bunny who is ungrateful, and self minded, so he gets dropped in the ocean and starts to begin his journey to find his true love and his love that he started with, Abilene. This book has some sad parts to it that makes you feel for Edward Tulane and even maybe make you cry, with Edward giving up on the world with not knowing what exciting thing will happen next.

An event from my book that I think is important is when the main character Edward Tulane and her owner Abilene and their family go on a boat trip called the Queen Mary. Edward Tulane is a self minded bunny who cares nothing for Abilene so, when he is on a boat ride called The Queen Mary with his owner and the owners mom and dad, Edward Tulane got thrown off the boat by some bullies and that begins the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
