The Name Of This Book Is Secret, by Pseudonymous Bosch

This book is called The Name Of This Book Is Secret, by Pseudonymous Bosch. In this book there are two main characters, one named Cass and one named Max-Ernest. Cass is very different than Max-Ernest. Cass is something called a survivalist. She never leaves home without her backpack. Her backpack has lot of survival stuff in it such as a first aid kit, rope, matches, and things like that. Max-Ernest on the other hand is a kid who never stops talking. Together they are uncovering a mystery of a magician who died in  a fire/maybe “fire”.

The main characters go through many challenges throughout the book, but one of them is two creepy characters. Their names are Mrs. Mauvis and Dr. L. They are a married couple and again they are really creepy. They do lot of things to make Cass and Max-Ernest’s lives a lot harder. A better summery of the plot is in the beginning Cass and Max-Ernest go into the magician’s house and find things out. After that things get complicated. Basically, I don’t want to give any spoilers, but people go missing, characters read things, and finally things get solved. A quote from the book is “I am looking for Toxic Waste.” I like this quote because It pimagesroves that Cass is brave.

I really enjoyed the book because it had the perfect amount of everything. Description, a good use of words and things like that. For example there was a part of the book where the principal got really mad at Cass so the narrator said that was the maddest Cass had ever seen a principal. He/She didn’t go on and on explain how exactly how the principal looked. I also enjoyed the book because it is a really good story in general. It had lots of twists and turns in the plot, but it wasn’t confusing at all. There were also lots of parts where I felt like I was in the story. The author did a really good job of drawing me in. I would recommend this book to someone who likes a good mystery because this book is just a really good mystery. You know? I would give this book a five out of five star rating.

Fablehaven By Brandon mull

imgresThe title of the book that I  read this summer is called Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. Kendra Sorenson  is not that happy to go on a “fake” vacation to her grandparent’s place, While her parents are on a 17 day cruise. Kendra feels this way because the summer before she over heard her parents saying “we have no other choice but to send them” .While on the other hand, Seth Sorenson is Kendra’s younger brother and he is very enthusiastic and always wants to do something. The setting is in the present because they have cars and cellphones. It takes place in Fablehaven where monsters of all shape and sizes can live in peace without the humans knowing where to hunt them down. But everybody on the farm knows what Fablehaven is.

One of the things that I notice about the characters is that if Kendra and Seth were not brother and sister and they happened to go to the same school they would hate each other. So they are not very compatible together and that makes teamwork hard. The book is about two kids ( Kendra and Seth) have to go to their grandparents house while their parents  are on a 17 day cruise because their aunt died. While they are there, there grandparents have these crazy rules like don’t go in the forest or don’t go in the barn but Seth goes into the forest and discovers Fablehaven. Soon after that they drink a magic milk that there grandfather was hiding and when they did they saw all the monsters in fablehaven but still are not allowed to go. I know Kendra is upset because she said “we went through all the trouble to figure this place out, but now if we go were stuck in our room for the rest of the trip”.

I did not enjoy the book because I thought it was poorly written and it was too predictable. I would not recommend this book to anybody, the read was way too long. I think the author just ran out of ideas because this book could make sense in 3 pages. I rate this book 0 out of five.

Mysteries According to Humphrey

Mysteries according to Humphrey is by Betty G. Birney. It is located in Long Fellow school. Humphrey is the main character. Humphrey the hamster is trying to find out were Mrs.Brisbane [the class teacher] is. Humphrey has a friend named Og. Og is a frog. He also has a girl that is his friend and her name is Phoebe.

When Mrs.Brisbane leaves Mr.E [the substitute teacher] comes and everything goes wrong. A letter comes from the mail that is from Mrs.Brisbane. This is what it says,”Dear class, I miss you all and I miss Longfellow school. I miss being home too. But the good news is that they say I’ll be up on my feet and dancing before long. It’s funny to think that  this all came about because of Humphrey. Please listen to Mr.E and make me proud. Your teacher Mrs.Brisbane!” Humphrey thinks, How did I do this? Humphrey has a lock that doesn’t lock, and it is a big deal because he could get caught. He helps the whole class, so when Phoebe loses her daisy watch, he squeezes through doors and finally finds her daisy watch. Mrs.Brisbane comes back and everything is normal again.

I loved this book. It was funny, a perfect reading level for me, and it was about animals and I love animals. 3rd and 4th graders would like this because it is a perfect reading level for them. I would rate this book five stars out of five*****.

Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos

Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos is about a boy named Jack who is eleven years old and lives with his Mom, Dad, horse and turkeys. He lives in Norvelt, a really small town in Pennsylvania that’s named after Eleanor Roosevelt. His Dad was in the army so he has some rifles that Jack accidentally shot himself with.

Jack’s problem is that his Dad is worried that the Russians would attack them so  he wanted to protect the town by building a bomb shelter in their backyard but too do that Jack has to cut down his Mom’s cornfield. That’s why his Mom grounds him for the summer.  He spends his summer digging a bomb shelter and helping Miss Volker. Miss Volker was given a job by Eleanor Roosevelt to be the town health helper. Every time a person dies she calls Jack to write an obituary (it’s a news article that reports the recent death of a person ) of that person. Jack then takes it to Mr. Greene, who runs the newspaper, to print in the next newspaper. Whenever he goes to Mr. Greene, Mr. Greene says, “There’s only one reason why you could be here.”.

I really enjoyed the book. It takes a while to read since each page has a lot of information so you have to re-read a lot of pages. I mostly enjoyed it because it’s really funny, for example, Bunny, who’s Jack’s friend, makes Jack touch a dead person. There are other parts I enjoyed, especially when Jack’s Dad lands a plane he won while gambling in right field and when Miss Volker does an operation on Jack. You would enjoy this book if you don’t mind people dying because a lot of people die in it. I would give this book five out of five stars since it’s so funny!

The Glass Sentence

The Glass Sentence by S.E grove is a book about a girl named Sophie Tims.It is the story of an adventure through time and places all over New Occident. Sophie lives in Boston in the country called New Occident. The book takes place in no real time because in 1799 something called The Great Disruption which put every country into another time period. Sophie is taken care by her uncle Shadrack because her mom and dad went missing when she was young. Sophie is very talented as well, she is a scout adventure.

The story is about her adventure with a boy named Theo. Together they travel to different countries scattered in different times to find the cause of the Great Disruption while looking for her uncle. They pay lot of attention to a map made by Shadrack that tells of memories when you touch it. For example when Sophie says in chapter 9 “I had no idea she had such a terrible story in her past”.  That’s when Sophie was  leaving at that time to find her uncle, she seemed scared leaving her home.

I would rate this book 5 stars, its really good. The best part to me was when the story finally got to the adventure and kicked up. I also liked when Sophie was brave and when she worked hard no matter what.   I would recommend this book to people who like confusing books, because it can be confusing. I hope you read this book you will probably enjoy it.

Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes

PeterNimbleCover

Over the summer I read a book called, Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes, by Jonathan Auxier. This book takes place in The Vanished Kingdom. The Vanished Kingdom is a hidden palace in the middle of a prison called The Just Deserts. Peter Nimble, the main character, is an orphan thief who is blind. He is a really good thief because all of his other senses are stronger. People also don’t suspect him as a thief because of his handicap. One day Peter steals a box. The box contains three pairs of magical eyes. One pair is emerald, one pair is onyx, and the last pair is golden. The golden eyes send Peter to the last place they saw. The onyx eyes turn Peter into the last animal he touched. The emerald pair…I can not reveal.

The novel is about his journey to The Vanished Kingdom. On his travels, he meets Sir Tode. Sir Tode is a mix between a knight, a cat, and a horse. “I am a human knight ,  Sir Tode corrected,  who has been trapped inside the body of a cat… and a horse.” Together they battle to save the slaves and defeat the evil king of The Vanished Kingdom.

Peter  and Sir Tode find themselves in a lot of dangerous situations.  Peter is an amazing lock pick. He once picked 12 locks within an hour. “It took the better part of an hour for Peter to pick the locks on the Haberdashers carriage.” He uses this skill to take down the king.

This book was really surprising and suspenseful. It had action, and a little bit of mystery. I would recommend this book to ages 9+. People who like fantasy will love Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes. I would rate this book 10 stars. I hope Jonathan Auxier writes another one.

Spelling B and The Missing Magic, By Lexi Connor

My book is called Spelling B And the Missing Magic by Lexi Connor. The main characters are a girl named B her best friend George and their substute  teacher mr bishop. B’s main problem is that her whole family has a magic powers and she does not. When B’s class has a spelling bee and the prize are behind the scenes tickets to a concert with a band called the black cats weird things keep happening after B spells a word. then the prize tickets go missing and everyone starts to worry and B needs to find them.

I think without that small little scene where mr bishop says we are having a spelling B is a big but small event because without the spelling b the rest of the more fun events wouldent happen in this book B does make a big desision but I am not going to say because it will spoil the book. At the end B‘s problem gets resolved! “I have to miss spell it, their is no other way. Bye-bye tickets.”

I loved my book it was fun, funny and magical. A reader who likes a book about mgic and fantasy and realistic ficton tied together in one  would like this book becaure the is B and B’s family who are magical and the rest of it is normal town normal school and a little bit of freindship. I would rate this book 4 & ½ stars!
