The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex

The title of my book is The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex. The story takes place all over America. It is about aliens called the Boov who have already taken over the world and one criminal alien named J.lo helps the main protagonist, named Gratuity, also known as Tip, an 11- year-old girl who can drive.

J.lo helps Tip fix her car and then they go to Florida where all the Americans are living, or are they? Then it turns out that the Boov love oranges and make them go to Arizona. Then later, another alien race, called the Nimrogs, or really the Gorg, invade Smekland (Earth). What happened is one Nimrog killed all the other Nimrogs and then the Boov gave Gorg, the last Nimrog, a cloning machine so Gorg cloned himself into a whole entire race, the Gorg race. A big decision Tip makes during the story is letting J.lo call her Tip because “only friends call me Tip.” Ultimately, the Boov surrender and the Gorg are defeated because of cloning problems and a “cat-astrophe.”

In conclusion,  if you like aliens, bad grammar jokes, and awkward situations, this is a book for you. I rate this book 4.5 stars out of five. I enjoyed the book, but the ending did not satisfy me.

Hortons Miraculous Mechanisms by Lissa Evans

My book is called Horten’s Miraculous Mechanisms by Lissa Evans.  It is about a boy named Stuart who moves to his father’s’ home town called Beeton. One day he receives a package with a magic money box in it. He finds a note in it from his great uncle who is a magician it is for his dad. But instead Stuart goes on the adventure to find his uncle’s secret workshop. It takes place in 2011.

There are a lot of characters, there are identical triplets named April, May, and June, a rich evil business women named jeanne and her student Clifford, a blind old lady named Leonora and her guide dog Pluto. In this adventure story Stuart and April become friends, and break the law more than once. Stuart goes back in time and sees his great uncle tony April starts an illegal protest and Jeanne tries to sell the workshop. But in the end Stuart wins it all. I did not like the end because the workshop wasn’t in a good hidden place. I did like how Lissa Evans described every single thing. my favorite part was when Jeanne surprised Stuart in the museum.

The Island of Doctor Libres by Chris Grabinstein

Book Review Four

My book was called The Island of Doctor Libres  by Chris Grabenstein. It is about people who who read books and they come to life on an island the main characters in this book are Billy, Walter, Hercules, Robin Hood Maid Marian, Tom Sawyer and Pollyanna, (most of the main characters are from books). The setting is lake Katrine,

If I could use three adjectives to describe Billy it would be Smart because he defeats the bad guys of the books too. He is friendly because he was friends with walter when he first met him. He is daring because he went back to the island to find the treasure even with a space lizard. An interesting part of the book is when the bully Nick Farkas goes onto the island and reads a comic book called “Space Lizard” it comes to life. It is interesting because how Billy defeats the Space Lizard is he reads a book that the Space Lizard met his match.

I think that if I was in the book i’d read aladdin and get a wish from the genie. the main problem is that Billy also has to fight the bad guys in the books. E.g when  he was reading Robin Hood he would have to fight the sheriff of Nottingham.

Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabinstein

Book Review Number 3

by Max Taetle

My book is called Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, by Chris Grabenstein. It is about 12 kids who have to escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library. The main character’s name is Kyle Keely. The other characters are Akami, Miguel, Sierra, Haley, Charles, Andrew and Mr. Lemoncello. The story takes place in Mr. Lemoncello’s library.

If I could describe my main character, I would say he’s loyal, because he never betrays his team (even if he can). He is friendly, because he invites everyone who wants to be on his team onto his team. He is also clever, but you have to read the whole book to find out why. I found the book interesting when Haley  betrays her team. I also find it interesting when Kyle’s team uses a board game to find clues on how to get out of the library.

I enjoyed this book because the characters were weird and the story was exciting because in some parts they never did anything that bad, but if they did challenges (to try to earn clues to help you get out of the library), and the character failed, he would be out of the game. You only had a one chance so the the game was suspenseful.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes realistic book and/or adventure books. A few books that are a little similar are Divergent (a little) and The Island of Doctor Libris. It is similar to Divergent because in Divergent the clans have different personalities and in this book each person has a different personality. Doctor Libris is written by the same author.

***** I loved it!

The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger

The main character Tommy knows something weird is going on and it starts with Dwight. This book is the first in the Origami Yoda series. The main characters are Tommy, Dwight, Harvey and Kellen. Tommy is trying to figure out if origami Yoda is real. The setting is 2011, and takes place at Macquarie Middle School.

The main character Tommy is nerdy, because he is obsessed with Star Wars. He is resilient, because he is also obsessed with trying to figure out if Origami Yoda is real. He is also friendly because he gives Dwight (the weirdest kid in school) a chance. Tommy trying to find out if origami Yoda is real and there are bumps along the road. The plot is also about the friendship and hatred that goes on with the characters. One of the parts I find interesting is when Harvey makes his own origami Yoda. Another part that I find interesting is when Tommy asks Sara to the dance, because it was all part of a bet. An event that changes the story is when origami Yoda gives advice for the first time, because the kids now know he gives good advice and they think it’s amazing that a puppet can give advice.

I enjoyed this book because the characters are all different but they all love Star Wars. Another reason why I enjoyed this book is because I really like realistic fiction, because it’s not normal but never gets too crazy. I would recommend this book because it has something for everyone. I would also recommend this book because the story can go anywhere. The genre is realistic fiction, because it has the weirdest plot ever but it’s calm . This book is connected to a book called Better Nate Than Ever. I rate this book 5 stars *****

States And Capitals by Dan Green

msqxG7fyqxJ3LNKedItGYpQI am reading a book called States And Capitals by Dan Green. It is about the States in America. The characters are the States and they are trying to inform the reader about themselves. They are cute and funny. Whenever the book is talking about the State, it uses “I” instead of “it”.  My favorite example is when Massachusetts said, “I made the first chocolate chip cookies.” I like that because it makes learning fun. Thinking about the States as characters is fun, but it can also be annoying.

This book is good for kids who love to learn and figure out things.  While there is no big plot, it has a lot of information, and a lot of good stories so there are a lot of little plots. It made me laugh when Texas said, “In April we celebrate Eeyore  from Winnie the Pooh’s birthday.” I  was surprised to find out that California had 37,254,000 people. I did not know a lot about all of the States, but I want to learn even more about them while reading this book.

I enjoyed this book for various reasons.  First, it is good for me because it is a Basher Book and I have read Basher Books before and they help me learn. Also, this book can help me, and other kids, with other subjects like history (because it tells you the history behind that State), geography and even a little science. Finally, it has funny jokes so it’s not boring, which I think is the most important thing about a book for kids. But the best part is that for me, it’s a book that I don’t read too fast or too slow, and I really like it. I really recommend this five-star book.
