This is a great time to go on some learning quests to dig deeper into personal interests, to refine a skill or hobby or to explore an emerging or long-standing passion. Some of these quests are best taken alone and others will benefit from going on the journey with others.

If you chose to go one one of these journey’s and want to tell us your story or share a product of your experience, email us at at-home@lrei.org.

Also, if you come across a good quest, send us the information so that we can post it here. Happy questing and learning!

Join the Children's 60-Second Film Challenge for Earth Day

sponsored by REAL SCHOOL Budapest

For all the curious, creative and courageous kids out there who care about our Earth, this is a call for action!

The 50th anniversary of Earth Day is coming up on 22 April 2020. Let us grab this opportunity to raise awareness of all the positive aspects of our slowed-down lives during the quarantines, such as being present, creative, and playful, rapidly learning and adapting, and caring for others. Let’s use the power of a short-short film to inspire others to take climate action when we emerge from this situation, or to see the beauty in something that seems to be so hard to accept.

Design for Change USA Change Makers!

We’re writing to you with some exciting news!

DFC USA has been challenged to flood the internet with stories of students using the FIDS (FEEL, IMAGINE, DO, SHARE) process to address the COVID-19 pandemic! Our goal is to create a viral campaign making Kindness CAN-tagious across the nation. We even have a notable filmmaker supporting our efforts (she’s done campaign ads for a presidential candidate – she’s amazing!) We’re also looking into getting celebrity endorsements!!! We are calling this movement the #DoGoodFromHome Challenge and we need your help.

Click here to learn more about how you can take action and remember to tag your posts with @dfcusa and  @lrei and #lreilearns to anything that you post that will allow us to know what good you’ve been up to.

Action Steps

1. Follow the instructions here  –
2. Work with your children/students to conduct a super simple act of kindness (writing kind messages on the side walk, grocery shopping for an elderly neighbor, etc)
3. Post your efforts on social media with text, images or videoFilm your children/students stating/doing the following:

Sample Script:
“My name is Mark and I’m from New York. I FEEL like my elderly neighbor is feeling a bit scared so I’ve been IMAGINing ways to connect with him safely…sending him and email or calling him. I’ve finally decided to just Do something about it. I wrote him a letter and left it on his doorstep. He was so moved, he called my mom to say how happy it made him. I’m so excited to inspire other kids and SHARE my story! It’s time to work together!  I challenge you to do the same using hashtag #DoGoodFromHome. Come on New York students, we can do this!”
