Important: LAUNCH OF NIGHT by ELIE WIESEL

Today in class we launched our study of the book Night, by Elie Wiesel. If you were absent, you must complete the introduction we did, using this handout to guide you. Read the background, answer the questions, click the maps and watch the 5 minute video. Go on to read the preface to the new translation. You must do all of this so that you are prepared for the first reading. Then, I highly recommend you buy the text at any bookstore so you can complete the reading and homework, assigned below.

Due Wednesday: Night, Session One Assignment:

1/Read vocabulary definitions on the handout (link is below) to support you in the first section of the reading.

2/If your class did not finish the preface in class, begin by completing it. You may not skip it.

3/I highly recommend that you read the foreward.

4/ Read pages 3-22, and complete the questions on the handout.

Thank you letter to Mrs. Francis Irwin. This must be at least 3/4 to 1 page and include an honestly written explanation of what you learned during her visit. My advise is to add some details about her story that struck you and also to include some personal connections that you made. This will be sent to her. She will read it. It will be graded.

Thank you letter to your MAIN sustainability organization. Thank them for providing information and a place to learn more about their work. You may also mention what you did in the Teach-In to bring their work to the larger community here at school.

Finally, give me a list of the organizations that you worked with for the Sustainability Project and their contact information. We may contact them next year.

YOU DID IT! I want to acknowledge each of you for a fantastic Teach-In today! Through all the blood, sweat and (some) tears you pulled it off, making a dynamic mark on the middle school. I have NO QUESTION that you inspired many of them today and you should be really proud of that. Thank you for your hard work!

Okay – there’s been some confusion about the homework and it is because of the hectic stuff that has been going on (and that I forgot to post yesterday)! The homework here is not new, actually many of you have already started or finish parts of it. I have extended the due date for FDR by one day. But you can get it done now.

Here you go:

DUE THURSDAY – based on the reading that you ALREADY DID, please answer the questions on chapters 19, 20, 21 that are listed on the handout that many of you have alredy started. TKAM Chapters 20 & 21.

DUE FRIDAY – FDR Chapter 6 finish reading the chapter and answer the questions for the rest of the chapter on the CH. 6 handout. FDR chapter 6.
