8th Grade Jazz Study and Swing Dancing

8th grade music classes are studying American music. Classes are currently listening to Jazz, using the Jazz at Lincoln Center Jazz curriculum as our touchpoint. This extensive program was created by Wynton Marsalis and his cohorts with a grant from the Louis Armstrong Foundation. Chapters are devoted to pieces of Jazz history, lessons and musical illustrations are recorded by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, all narrated by Mr. Marsalis. Students use workbooks in class providing background information, listening maps and activities to enhance the listening.
As an adjunct to the listening, isn’t it the season to get up and swing to the beat? Oh, yes! Special guest, and my wonderful dance partner for these sessions, is Sherezada Acosta. We will begin once Sherezada returns from the robotics trip to Japan, and continue after the grade returns from the Washington, DC trip.

Wednesday, April 30

Wow; you guys were amazing leaders today!

1. Give yourself a pat on the back and feel proud.

2. Post a sixth and final (!!!) time to the blog: your thoughts on how today went, especially the workshop you lead.

***

Due Friday, May 2

1. Read FDR Chapter 7 and answer 10 (only 10!) of the 18 questions on the handout. Use a separate sheet of paper and include specific examples from the text, as usual!

le 29 avril

Take-home quiz:
On a separate piece of paper, write out ALL of the exercies on p. 186 in the workbook (le petit cahier). If you already completed this in the workbook and need to make corrections, do so on the piece of paper. All exercises need to be written out fully. This wil count as a quiz and you need to spend time thinking about your answers. You MAY use your textbook. It must be handed in as you walk into the classroom. Printing out when you get here will NOT be allowed and you will not receive credit if it is late.
