The Atomic Model

My Tinkercad Atom                                        Rutherfords Atom                  Rutherford

When I made this in Tinkercad, (a 3d website) I was thinking about the protons and neutron so I made many different colored balls of energy. I also showed them being connected with the black things in the middle. I think my model compares to Rutherford’s model in 1910 because like mine, he included protons and neutrons in the same format as my tinkercad model you see above. Rutherfords model was called nucleus. In Science class I have learned that the atom is a ball of energy surrounded by electrons and we do not know what speed or where exactly. I’ve also learned that atoms make up everything, me you, earth, the universe, everything! Atoms came from the big bang, the start of life, planets, stars, the thing that made the universe, not empty. Also atoms are made up of electrons and protons. It looks like this:

In my zoetrope there is a line going across and it is making the sad emoji, happy. It goes from blue to yellow. I liked doing this because It was fun to learn about animations and how disney started. I also liked making my own animation without technology. I think this is a good example of my best work because I spent a lot of time trying to make the yellow and blue bold and the line SUPER bold and that is what I was going for. I think in my next project I am going to do a back round because my emoji is in the middle of nowhere.

French Reflection

f8da54ed8d47df562bf91b0a1f28fb4bMy favorite activity in French was bingo because it was fun to compete and stuff like that. I also enjoyed it because I like board games and it was a fun idea to make bingo for french numbers. I learned more about numbers with this game. We learned lots of 2 digits numbers and the listened to numbers 1-99. I also enjoyed simon dit. I liked it because it was a  fun game to play and I never got out and also it was cool to see a game I play in English in French.

Summer Book Review

My Rotten Life

By David Lubar

I read My Rotten Life by David Lubar. This book is about a kid called Nathan, who lives in a small town. He has a best friend called Mookie who is obsessed with zombie movies. After having a very bad day at school being bullied, Nathan runs into a small girl called Abigail. She says she can take away bad feelings with a potion her and her uncle made, but it’s not tested. Nathan takes the risk, but it goes terribly wrong. Nathan turns into a half dead accidental zombie.

Nathan made a big decision to try out the potion, but was it a good idea, or a bad one?  He makes a friend and becomes a hero. He made a decision that changed his fate and his friends fate. Nathan risks his life for his friends, now his normal life will not come back. ‘You’re a zombie,’ Mookie said. ‘Forever.’ He was right. There was nothing I could do about it. No way I could change what I’d done. There was really only one thing to say. I spread my arms and said, ‘I’ll live.’”

I did enjoy this book because it was about zombies and science fiction along with friendship and heroism. Science fiction because there is potions, heroism because Nathan saves someone’s life and friendship because they make a new friend. So if you like zombies, science fiction, heroes without powers and friendship this is a good book for you. But mostly zombie lovers. I would say that because Nathan is a half dead zombie. I would rate this book 3 stars.

Welcome to your digital portfolio!

Welcome to your brand new digital portfolio/blog at blogs.lrei.org!

Your portfolio can be used for many things through out your middle and high school years, including:

  • Documenting and reflecting on your learning, passions, and interests, both in and out of school
  • Curating and highlight work for your Family Conferences
  • In some instances, your teachers will ask you to submit, reflect and comment on work in this portfolio

It is our hope that you also seek to make this a personally relevant learning space in which you curate work that is important and meaningful to you. As you build this learning space, we also hope that you will use it as a way to connect with other learners in the LREI community and beyond.

Your LREI account (Mail, Docs/Drive) credentials will automatically get you into your blog. Here are a few things you’ll want to take a look at:

1. Change the name of your blog. To do this, go back to the Dashboard and click on the “Home” symbol, then on “MS Digital Portfolio Template” under “This Blog.”

Blog

In the field for “Site Title,” add a new title. You can use your first name if you want (e.g., “Mark’s Digital Portfolio”), but don’t use your first and last name. You can also create a title that doesn’t have your name in it. Be as creative as you want, but keep in mind that the title should relate to the purpose of the portfolio.

After you’ve added a new title, click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page.

2. Add a Post

For the most part, you’ll be adding items to your blog as posts. To add a new post, you can click on the +New button in the top bar of your blog, and then select “Post.”

Screen Shot 2014-09-04 at 8.45.30 AM

You’ll want to give each post a title, and assign it to a Category. These categories are broken down by class and grade (e.g., fifth grade, core, etc.). This will allow you to organize and sort information so that you can control the look and feel of your blog. If you take a look at the menu bar under the blog title, you see the different groups of categories (e.g., class, grade, teacher, etc.).

When you’re done with your post you can click “Publish” on the side to make the post appear on your blog
