Summer Reflection: By Sierra

IMG_6357I have had such an amazing summer! I learned so many new and different things. Even though it was just a couple of months, I am so happy I got to see a lot my my friends and family. I am also super happy with all the places I got to travel.

In the summer I learned a lot of different things. For example in Stone Harbor I learned how to surf and in Greece I perfected my back dive. Also at camp I learned how to land my flip.

Over the summer I tasted a lot of different foods. And I got a lot better at cooking. When I was visiting Greece I got to try Greek salad. It was interesting to me because I have never tried a salad with no lettuce. Also, when I was in Pennsylvania I got to taste some of my sisters bright yellow ice cream. It was called play-dough.

This summer I spent a lot of time in the water. For example, I had a super fun time swimming at the Haystacks, swimming in Greece and surfing in Stone Harbor. I finished my summer off by tubing in lake Harmony with my cousins on a tube called Super Mable. I had so much fun even though I got thrown off many, many times.

I can’t wait until next summer!

Summer Reading: In A Glass Grimmly By Sierra

In A Glass Grimmly is about two kids named Jack and Jill. These two kids are brilliant when it comes to creating planes and  tricky ways to escape. Most of the time this leads to more trouble. Along their long journey they meet a frog who’s name is Frog. Frog comes up with many suggestions but I would not say Jack and Jill always take this advice. But Frog would not give up on Jack and Jill.

Jack is a very imaginative boy. He is always day dreaming. It takes the whole book for him to realize he does not need Marie or the other boys in the village and that he is his own person.

Jill is an amazing individual and she does not follow others. She is great when it comes to helping and coming up with a plan right away. She is always there with her clever ideas to help people in need of her help. For example, when Jack got himself into a ton of trouble with the giants, Jill saved him in minutes with her brilliant plan.

Summer Reading: A Tale Dark and Grimm By Sierra McDonald

A Tale Dark and Grimm is about two children named Hansel and Gretle. These two kids run away from their crazy parents and start their exciting journey. In each chapter they go on a different crazy adventure all leading up to the ending.

Hansel has a creative mind when it comes to making up plans and he is always thinking about other people. That is what makes him a kind person. For example, when they had to come up with a plan to kill the dragon he thought of a brilliant plan. Also when he had to escape the devil he made sure he had a plan to help the people escape the dungeons.

Gretle is a special girl who always has a way of figuring things out. For example when she needed to figure out who the dragon was and how to defeat it. She always had a plan even if it was not the best plan. She always had ideas. Also she was never afraid to stand up for what was right!

Summer Reading: Upside Down Magic By Sierra

Upside Down Magic is a book about a girl named Nory. You could say she had a few problems, or what she called problems. Nory’s kind of magic was called a fluxer. Fluxers change into different animals but thats not how it worked for Nory. Instead Nory fluxed into, well things like the animal on the cover a Dritten. Anyway, there are many different kinds of magics including Fuzzys, Flares, Flyers, Flickers and Fluxers. Fuzzys would communicate with Animals. Flares had fire magic. Flyers had the power to fly. And Flickers had the power to disappear and turn things invisible. After you were about 8 or 9 you would develop a magic. And in Norys case when developed her power it was well, upside down. Soon a school called Dunwiddle heard of upside down magic and created a program where they could be helped. And that is where Nory is now along with many other upside down students.

Summer Reading: Counting by 7s By Sierra

Counting by 7s is a book about an adopted girl named Willow. Through this book Willow calls herself an outcast or someone who is different. She says this because she has a different way of looking at things. After her parents sadly pass away she decides the world is a a terrible place she does not want to be. So she agrees to shut out the world. And so the rest of the book is about people trying to understand her and see the world her way. This leads to her starting to open up to the world again.

Dell Duke started out as a counselor but as time went on he ended up as more of a care giver. Dell Duke was a kind person, but he worked hard not to show it. Instead, he showed himself as someone who did not care about other things than himself. He was lazy.

Counting by 7s By Holly Goldberg Sloan

In this book Mai was known as someone who cared for other people, was friendly and always there for other people. Even though Willow was younger than Mai, when Willow needed her most she was there. She gave up her time she would spend with her friends and helped Willow get more and more comfortable living without her parents. Mai is a true friend.

The Haystacks By Sierra

Today we had a wonderful idea to go on a hike to the haystacks. We were all super excited because we decided our new dog would get to go. So around 12:00 we started our drive. And after ten minutes of listening to our dog snore we were there. I was so happy! So we got out of our car and started the long hike. As we started to walk we went over two bridges and started off into the forest. Bubby was super excited. He would stop and smell something every two minutes so after a while we just decided to carry him a bit. We walked and walked and finally we came to the shimmering water surrounded by bright green trees. And we set up our stuff and went in the Loyalsock River.

This my little sister and I being pulled down stream by the current.

This is Bubby at the Haystacks!

The reason they call it the haystacks is because of how the rocks are shaped. The rocks are shaped like this because the river has been running for so much time it shaped the rocks. Also it left the rocks with a glazed layer of green. People say they look like hay stacks. But anyway after I slipped a few times (because of the slippery rocks) we climbed up the rocks with nothing to grip, got to the top and slid down all the mossy rocks. And as it started to get late we began our long walk back. It was so much fun and I can’t wait to go back!

This is me going down one of the natural water slides!!!!!

Stone Harbor By Sierra

While I was in Stone Harbor I did a lot of fun things including going to the beach, bike riding and more! When we first got there I was very focused on going to the beach but it would not stop raining so we decided to go see my cousins. My cousins names are Parker, Jack and Jude. After we arrived and said hi to everyone my four year old cousin Jude gave me a very specific tour of their house. He pointed out all of the different colors of the chairs! This made me laugh. And as the day started to end we had dinner and went to our beach house.

IMG_6378This is a picture of my cousins and I dressing up as people from the 8o’s!

The next day I was so excited because we were going to the beach. So after a I had a donut we went. We met everyone at the beach and my cousin Jack and I went in the ocean. He thought the water was freezing, but I thought it felt nice. Then when I decided I was ready to get out my cousins surprised me! They were not supposed to come until tomorrow but the Nemshicks (Madison, Colin and Carter) always surprise me! Anyway, when the lifeguards left it was time to go surfing! Then again I did not really learn how to yet, but I decided I wanted to learn. And so after many fails I got on my knees, which is improvement! After this it was getting late so everyone started to go home.IMG_6344This is a picture of my Mom, Dad me with my boogie board after I came out of the ocean!

The last day since we had so much left over food, we decided to make coconut sprinkle pancakes. they were yummy! And so after an amazing week I was really sad to leave but happy knowing I would come back next year!

Greece 6/15/16-6/22/16 By Sierra

Athens

IMG_5748

When we finally arrived in Greece I was so excited to explore and although I was really tired (we were 7 hours ahead) we still decided to explore. On our second day we were really thrilled to go on our daylong tour. First we went to the place where they held the first modern Olympic games. It was so cool! It was built all the way back in 1896. Also Athens held the first ancient Olympic games in 776 BC. Then we went on and saw many ancient temples like the temple of Poseidon, the temple of Zeus and the temple of Athena Nike. A fun fact is the reason they now call this city Athens is because Athena’s gift to the city (an olive tree) was better then Zeus’s (a spring).

Mykonos

IMG_2705 3

During Mykonos most of the time I swam but what I thought was really cool was when I swam with the fish. The reason I liked this so much is because I got a lot of bread so I could feed them. So I went into the water and started to adjust to the temperature. After I got in I started to spread out the bread and one after another the fish came in. They were so pretty! I saw so many different ones like some metallic looking ones and some were rainbow. I had a great time!

Santorini

nazar

When we got to Santorini I was so tired I wanted to go to sleep so badly but I couldn’t because if you do then your time schedule will be all messed up. So I was just very tired through the day. The next morning after I had gotten some rest we went shopping. While we were shopping I asked about a blue eye looking thing. The reason I asked was because it was in every shop. So I found out they call it an evil eye. They do this because it watches over you. To me it’s a little creepy!
