Shark Tank Simulation

This is a spreadsheet that we made in class when we were doing a simulation. The simulation was called The Shark Tank simulation and that is where you start of with a certain number of sharks, minnows and seaweed. Each minnow needs to eat 1 seaweed to live, 2 seaweed to reproduce. The shark needs to eat 2 minnows to live, 4 to reproduce. The seaweed need to stay alive for the whole round (30 seconds) to reproduce. I think that it’s a good way to get a sense of populations in nature but I think that the results will be different if you did this simulation for real life.

My Music Piece

I enjoyed making the composition for the second time more than I liked making the first because I like having some experience. I put in some slurs because I thought it would go well with the pace of my piece. I didn’t put in as many staccatos as in my first piece because I didn’t think it would work with the pace. I liked how my piece has a balanced volume level but still gets loud and soft.

Book Partnership Blog Post

Xander and I read Bud, Not Buddy. Our partnership was good because we agreed well on the assignments and agreed on the discussion parts in the story. I’m proud that I did a good job on the paper bag assignment. One challenge for me was drawing the pictures for the paper bag.

Docent Talk Blog Post

My experience giving my docent talk at The Brooklyn Museum was fun and excited to tell other people what I learned. I felt a little nervous because you were speaking to a lot of people thinking about what could go wrong. One thing I learned about note-taking is write everything that has a bit of your topic even just a tiny part. When it comes to taking notes, I used to just look at the main part and rush, but now I read everything through and double check to see if I missed anything. One thing that is still challenging for me about note taking is getting all the notes in a paragraph.

Cyber Security and Apple Blog Post

I talked about the situation with my dad and we thought that with the ransomeware, if you pay, the hackers could do it again but if you don’t pay, you could lose everything. We thought that the FBI is just asking Apple to rewrite all their rules to open a phone that they don’t know if there is any information in it. Plus, it means that if the government gets the skeleton key, they could spy on you. We both think that the government shouldn’t get a skeleton key.

Gun Violence

I talked about gun violence with my mom and this is what we came up with:

We both think that the world would be safer without guns but there are problems with not having them in the world like the armed forces wouldn’t be able to protect our country and police wouldn’t be able to protect cities. Maybe there should be stricter laws around gun purchases because that would limit the number of people who have access.

The problem with this is people have the right to bear arms in the Constitution so we’d have to change the Constitution for the country to have the same gun law throughout. Right now, each state gets to make up its own laws. While New York City has a law that you have to have a permit to own a gun, lots of places don’t like Alabama and Mississippi. We looked at a website that said 1 in 3 people know someone who has been killed by a gun.

Human Computer

Last week in D-lab, Clair turned us into a computer! We all were computer parts and doing what the computer parts did. I played the roles of CPU, User and Peripheral. I noticed that the computer goes really fast. I learned that whenever the computer is loading, you should not be mad, it is doing so much for you. I would of liked to played the role of the Hard Drive.
