Over the summer I read a book called The Time Traveler, by H.G Wells. This book takes place in England in the 1890s, in the year AD 802,701, and more than 30 million years in the future. This book is about a man who builds a Time Machine and come back to tell his story to his peers. The Time Traveler is a very cunning and untrustworthy person. I think one of the main themes of the book is Time. Its obvious that the book is about time. But not in the way you would think. In this book it kept on throwing around big ideas about time and the way we look at versus the way it actually is.

The martain chronicles

This summer my favorite book I read is called, The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury. What makes this book so interesting is that it was written in the 1950’s but the author decided to make the story start in 1999. So everything that goes on at earth is what the author thought would happen in the future. In 2003 black people were still being oppressed on earth. In short this book is about the first humans to go to Mars. This but was written before humans went to Mars so there is a lot more imagination included then science. They have air on Mars, Martians with powers and even houses made out of crystal. But there also were some similarities, the Martians had typical 1950’s marriages and also shared some similar beliefs. This book reminded me of when the settlers first came to New York City. The Native Americans and the Dutch had never seen each other before. So their first thought was to make piece. They used the natives for trade. I’m sure some of them became friends with the natives. But over all the natives were respected. Until the people back the settlers old country started to come over. More and more dutch kept on flooding the city. The dutch kept on expanding knowing their territories until one day they realized they had to go to war. This was similar in The Martian Chronicles but there was more tension between the Martian and the Humans and they did not share the same exact motives. A theme that kept occurring in this book was privilege. I noticed the men had a lot more control then the women.
