The Little Mermaid

I am in the musical, which this year is the little mermaid. I play one of the daughters of Triton, and a princess in the contest. I am having a lot fun rehearsing. The set and costumes are really cool, though my mermaid costume is a bit hard to walk in. The preview for the musical is coming soon, some of us are ready but some people need to work on some of the numbers. I think that in the end the play will be really good. And doing it has been really fun.

Personal Project

In art we all have to do a personal project, which is based on an art style that we like. Mine is a painting of space. This is going to be hard because I’ve never really worked with paint before. Also I have to do these gas clouds which will be hard to figure out how to blend with paint. I think it will look good in the end though.

NASA Camp

I recently got excepted to this summer camp at NASA. It is a pre-astronaut training camp. The camp is not just learning about space but is actually a serious camp for people to start to train. It goes all the way up to collage age kids. There are simulators that show you what a launch would feel like. Then there is a simulation of a Moon or Mars mission were you have a team and things go wrong and you have to try to solve them. I am really exited for this because it is a really cool opportunity and a way to learn a lot. And I will get to talk to real NASA employees which is also really exiting.

American Born Chinese Essay

In Humanities we wrote an essay about the graphic novel American Born Chinese by Gene Yang. My introduction was good, I think that it was clear and informative. Though the essay was too short, I need to extend the analysis. Also in some of the paragraphs I throw in characters without introducing them. And there are just a few grammar issues and typos.

Trip To Iceland

Over spring break I went to Iceland with my family. It was awesome, I loved it there. There were only three or four hours of daylight, and even then the sun never fully rose, it was always twilight. We went to these ice-caves. They were really blue inside and actually lighter then outside. The light from people’s phones and cameras reflected off the ice creating more light. Then we went to these natural hot springs, they were heated by volcanic rocks which made it smell like sulfur, though the minerals in the water made my skin really smooth. I really liked it in Iceland I also learned about the Vikings. I would love to go back.

Fencing Drawings

I want to do a series of drawings, they would be drawing of the different fencing positions. It would help me learn how to draw people better without having to worry about faces. It also joins two things I love, art and fencing. I could also make small wire sculptures. I want to do this then maybe go over it with ink and maybe even water color. But I would have to practice using water color first.

Trip To The Met

Over the weekend I went with Rohan, Clair, Oni, and a few other people from other grades. We went there to study the statues and draw faces. Me and Oni both choose the same statue, it was on that had lost it’s nose. I drew this a few times before I was satisfied with the proportions and features. This was challenging because I never really try to draw faces but I learned tricks and ways for plotting it out. This was really fun and I learned a lot. I can’t wait to go on another trip.

Photo Shop Project

For this picture I took parts from four different pictures. Theres not really much of a pattern except for maybe the leaves or the stars. Contrast is found in the pattern of the leaves and the gruffness of the surface of the Moon vs Kate and the earth in the background. I think that emphasis is put on Kate and the tree, because you have the moon and the earth and to have a person or a tree is completely out of the ordinary. Proportion/Scale comes in in the placement of the objects to see how big Kate and the Tree are compared to Earth you can see that it is far away. She’s alone except for the tree looking back at earth where everybody else is.

Where does a Tree get its Mass?

In science we’re learning about glucose. We learned about how leaves absorb sunlight and carbon dioxide and how the tree absorbs the water. Then the tree makes it in to glucose which C6H12O6 ( 6 carbons, 12 hydrogen and 6 oxygen). Glucose is a kind of sugar that gives the tree mass. We watched a lot of videos to learn about it and Dan left a lot for us figure out. That was good and bad. It was good because it was more fun than us sitting there and someone telling us about it. It was hard because when we wrote something down and it was wrong we had to restart.
