Beowulf Annotations Reflection

When we read Beowulf this quarter, we had to annotate. Here are the three things that we used to annotate: We would write a chapter summary on the first page of the chapter. We did this in case we needed to use that chapter for a project, if I read the chapter summary, I would know what happened. We would also underline important parts. If there was a new setting or character, that would be a good thing to underline. The last thing we would do it circle and define words. If there was a word we didn’t know, we would circle it and then look up the definition in the dictionary and write it in the margins.

I think that annotating is important because you can learn a lot more things than if you just read the book.

One thing I’m proud of is how I underlined a lot of important parts.

One thing I want to improve on is defining my words.

What I’ve Learned in Mandarin So Far…

This is the Quizlet set that we’ve been studying this quarter. One is about the different countries and languages in the world and sentences related to the subject and the other one is my personal quizlet set:

unnamedThis is a script that Zoe and I wrote for one of our skits.

Here is a video that Io, Zoe, and I made for another one of our skits:

Here is another video that Io and I made with Emma D., Emma H., Meadow, and Grace:

I have learned so many words and sentences in this quarter! I can’t wait to study sports for our next unit!

Ashokan Trip 2015!

This was our last year at Ashokan and I am so sad! This year was very fun! Something that I did that was interesting was blacksmithing because I had never done anything like that before! Something that I learned was that a beaver house is called a beaver lodge. This year was different than last year because we did different activities. It’s sad that we aren’t going back next year but I can’t wait for Williamsburg!

Humanities Reflection!

Something I’m really proud of is my Grendel poster. There were eight groups of 2-3 students and we were all assigned characters from the book Beowulf. I am really proud of this project because I drew with great detail and paid attention to the internal and external characteristics.

One thing that I found challenging was the creative writing pieces because some of the prompts were really hard to relate to and that was hard for me to write about something that I can’t relate to.

Before and After!

IMG_1635This is my math notebook now.

In the beginning of the year, my problems were very squished together and I couldn’t tell which problem was which. Now I have made the problems more spread out and put more boxes in between each problem. I think it’s important to have my notebook this organized because if I need to come back to a problem or strategy I can find the exact one I need.

My Summer Reflection

This summer has gone by so fast! Most of the time I was swimming in a lake, pool, ocean, or natural water source. 75% of the time I was with my friends which was great. I probably only slept in my own bed for 5 days this summer. I went to camp for a month and then stayed in the city for one week and then went to the hamptons for two weeks. So I was always on my feet doing something. The list of activities is pretty much endless. I’m excited to go back to school because I won’t have to organize my activities. Unknown. I am sad that summer is ending but I can’t wait for the first day of school tomorrow!

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE HUNGER GAMES OR CATCHING FIRE

UnknownMockingjay by Suzanne Collins is the third book in The Hunger Games Series. Now that the rebellion has started in Panem, Katniss Everdeen is taken to the rebel base, District 13. District 12 was blown to bits by President Snow because of Katniss’s rebellious actions in the arena but Gale saved as many people as he could and brought them to 13. Johanna, Finnick, Beetee, Haymitch, Effie, Gale, Prim, and Katniss’s Mother were all saved and brought to 13. But Peeta was taken by the Capitol. Katniss is overwhelmed and has a lot of decisions to make. How will she overthrow the Capitol? Read the book if you want to find out!

My favorite part of the book was when Finnick and Annie got married because everyone was having a good time and not stressing about the capitol or the rebellion.

I would recommend this book to people who like action because there are a lot of battles. I would also recommend this book to people who like sci-fi because this isn’t necessarily realistic fiction. Lastly I would recommend this book to people who like The Hunger Games and Catching Fire. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
