My trip to Canada was very fun. I went to ValCartier, a resort that is not for skiing, it is for sledding. At this resort there are many different rides and slopes (all ranging in difficulty). The hardest, Everest, we went on many times, it has a 45 degree slope and is really fun and fast. We spent a couple of hours at the resort doing all of the slopes, all ranging in difficulty. Overall it was in the top three most exciting things that I did.
This Weekend, I went to look at a new camp (I have been at my old one 5 years now). This new camp is called Keewayden. Keewayden is a very outdoorsy type of camp. The very long trip up to camp is as follows:
On these canoeing trips, you see get to swim in natural, untouched lakes, see moose, bears (sometimes polar bears), fish, hike and canoe through the Canadian wilderness. It is a lot of fun!
This weekend I went to see Tosca by Puccini in at The Met. It was so much fun. It was in Italian, so it was a bit confusing (luckily the backs of the seats had captions). I loved it so much: there was nothing but singing! There are three different acts, all have different sets, all of which are beautiful. In between the acts (when they are setting up the new stages) they serve us lunch (or dinner). It is really good food! I would recommend that everyone goes to an opera soon because a lot of opera houses are closing and soon there will be very few (if any) left.
Over winter break, I read the book Tuesdays With Morrie. The book is one by a man named Mitch Albom. The book tells the story of a man who goes to his old professor from college when he hears that he is dying from ALS. ALS is a degenerative disease that wears down your nerves until you die from the inability to breath. While going through his prolonged death, Morrie “learned how to live.” Mitch found that he needed to say goodbye to his old professor, and so on every Tuesday, he went through his last class with Morrie.
What we did best as a group, is: working together (harmonizing and balancing volume). As a group I was most proud of our memorization. I was the most proud of the way that I learned all my parts (pretty well) while tackling my changing voice.
For me, it is important to build close relationships with my teachers, because when we have a close relationship, it is easier to get along with each other. It is also important to me to learn about things about my community because it allows me to get along with people better and fit in. However, the most important thing to me is to develop responsible behaviors that will get me through college, my job and my future adult life.
The idea for this project was to take a photo that we took and put it into photo shop so we can edit it and add other photos or objects to it, creating a work of art. The picture that I took is the one of the gondola with the gondoliers in it. I took this photo when my family and I went to Venice, we were there at the same time as the famous Gondoliering Regatta, so I snapped a couple of photos, and low and behold, they made it into my school art project. In my project, I chose not to put in any pattern, because I wanted everything to be special and itself. There is a bit of contrast in here, however not as much in colors, but in the objects. some are closer and some are farther, some are darker and some are lighter. For emphasis in this piece, I put the parts of my story that were more important, up close and the ones not so much, farther back. There is, I feel, not a lot of balance in my piece, everything is more dark, comes towards you and it seems plain. However, even though at first glance there doesn’t seem to be a ton of balance, after looking at it for longer, you can see that it actually does balance out nicely, and seems to go together very well. For me, proportion and scale meant a lot, the things that were more important were closer, and the things that were not as important, were farther.
The story being told here, is: a big war lord(the ship) is attacking a city (the city), the gondola, is a boat load of people escaping into the deep beautiful darkness of space.
The assignment for this presentation was: Create a commercial, advertising any spot of your choice in the world. Requirements: Has to be in French and has to make sense (NO google translate). I chose the place where I go skiing, Snowmass. During this project, I learned how to speak and write better in french, and also a little bit more about Snowmass. I really liked this project, because Sharyn gave us the freedom to advertise whatever place we wanted to.
I got to a lot of the things that I love, write historical fiction, write creatively and add all of my previous knowledge. This assignment however, showed a couple of things: I need to edit and revise my work at least once and I need to focus on it more. I think that I need to revise it more, because at one spot in the assignment, I forgot the period! However, even though there were some bad points to my essay, there were also strong points to balance it out,: I added extra facts, keywords and connected to previous papers, assignments and books that we had red in class. I think something that I could work on, was looking for punctuation better, I used too many commas. I want to thank Suzanne for helping me with this paper, she helped me with the idea to make all out of flashbacks, and allowed me a little extra time, because what I was doing was a bit harder.
