Some general helpful prompts to think about may be:
— How has your essential question changed throughout the 6 weeks?
My essential question has changed throughout the 6 weeks because it became less about the other people I was talking to and interviewing but more about myself. How can I create a successful podcast about journalism? How can I adjust myself to become more clear in my thoughts and create a storyline that fits well with my essential question? I wanted to hear the stories from the journalists because they were the experts, the podcast was the journey of finding out how journalists and media members create a successful storyline. Originally, I thought they were going to give me the answers on how to become a journalist and because I was going to be shadowing them. However, it was producing, writing, and finding the point of each episode that led me to what my essential question is and how I can cultivate my own voice. It started off as me merely trying to analyze the news and view journalists doing their work, however, I had to stop impersonating and find out what worked best for me.
— What did you expect to learn and how does that compare to what you did learn?
I expected to learn about the stories of the journalists I was interviewing and how that would help me get to where I want to be. What I ended up learning was how I can continuing cultivating my voice. Interviewing Dan Rather and Dan Harris, taught me that I need to find out what works best for me. When I interviewed Tony Gervino he told me that the profession I wanted to get into was harder than it looks, its brutal and tough and to be able to survive, I can’t be buying someone else’s voice. To be a journalist, you have to bring something new to the table and that’s why I tried doing with my podcast.
— How do you anticipate this experience changing you or affecting you going forward?
This experience brought me to who I wanted to be. After college, I hope to be an anchor or some sort of journalist, broadcaster or reporter, telling the world’s stories. I’d use lessons learned in “Senior Project” to perfect my voice for a larger audience and expand my study of political science, journalism, I just want to continue with what I started. I started a really great start, with all of the work I was able to get done. I was able to make great connections and I hope to use those in the future.
— What do you most want others to know about your SP Experience?
I want the people to know that I was able to interview some amazing people in the business and I was able to create great questions, interview topics and a show that taught me about journalism and hopefully the listener!
