EQ: How does the infant brain structure work?
In week four, I spent a lot of time watching “Babies” a Netflix docuseries explores the groundbreaking science that reveals how infants discover life during their very first years. It’s absolutely adorable and has opened my eyes to the ways babies interact with their parents and vice versa. Though I wish the show went deeper into the neuroscience of babies, it does provide some helpful information. The show seemingly answers questions like, “How do babies sleep?” and “how do babies learn to crawl?” The episode on sleep made me think about what the brain is like when sleeping, and why it is so hard for babies to sleep the way that adolescents and adults do. Newborns spend nearly 2/3 of their days asleep, yet cry and wail nonstop the first years. I’ve also learned about babies’ first words in the first 12 months and canonical babbling.
