Hanna Provost– Week 4 Blog Post (#10)

Earlier this week, Anna and I wrote another letter back and forth between our characters. I found writing the first letter easy, because my character started the conversation so I could basically write whatever I wanted, and posed questions I’d really ask if I had found a letter on the street. But answering the letter that she wrote back was the real problem for me– because I had to pretend I didn’t know what was going on with Anna’s character. I’ve found that it’s hard to format questions that you already know the answer to; I keep having to remind myself that my character doesn’t know that yet about Anna’s character and that I have to rephrase it as a question. It was a bit hard to change my mindset, but I got around this by actually writing it out on paper first, as if I were really writing a letter back to Anna. Somehow that got me more into character and allowed me to write more as my character instead of me.
