What is the process of writing a song like for a beginner?

I know that to write something I am proud of would be to write something meaningful to me. That means diving deeper into experiences and just things in general that bring me inspiration or evoke strong feelings. That also means it may be a little uncomfortable at first. I know that I also have to learn more about specifics of songwriting, patterns and chords. As someone who didn’t really know english very well until I came to LREI in the 7th grade and fully immersed myself in the language, I remember learning a lot of english through music. I would take the songs with rhythms, melodies and vibes I liked and would translate them to french to understand what they were talking about which I now realize actually helped a lot. This topic is also important to me because I’ve been journaling through songwriting since I was a little kid. Obviously, the songs I wrote as a 9 year old were probably not the best, and still aren’t, so I wanted to push myself to actually write something I can show. Having kept many song journals all these years and being able to see how strongly I felt about something I can’t even remember now through small poems and lyrics is something I love that I am able to do. I also love creative writing and music as two different topics. The book I am reading on songwriting is really helping me with formulating emotions in a poetic way. Since I love writing, I really like that this book lets me write better lyrics as well as just expressing myself in general.

I also find that as someone who’s always been a little shy, especially coming into America, writing was something that allowed me to say what I wanted to say on a piece of paper no one ever had to read. The challenge with this project is that I want to write something people might want to read. I want to explore music in a more daily routine way to see if it is something I genuinely want to do. Learning the guitar and learning to make melodies on the guitar is also an essential part of my senior project as it is very challenging for a beginner that has never touched the instrument before.
