Over the weekend I focused on research, and I started to finally organize it. From my readings of annual reports, I gained a better understanding of how ESG is viewed and how their principles are orchestrated in businesses. This weekend I clarified some of my notes by definitively sorting them into external goals (aimed at improving society and the environment) or internal goals (aimed at improving their corporate governance). I also did more extensive research on impact investing and its many forms. I was particularly interested in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), because I knew a little about them from being in economics class in 11th grade. Additionally, ETFs are a form of impact investing that everyday people can participate in, since investing in a sustainability-focused ETF (of which there are many) is essentially the same as buying a stock. Next week, I will continue my research and learn more about institutional impact investing, which is another way businesses can act in a sustainable manner whilst still remaining financially viable.
