Oscar Chun Focused Writing CR 3#

It is not exactly a piece of writing more of an interview I read about the process of writing. The person being interviewed was Alexander Chee and his process of writing. There was one particular part of the interview that struck me. The part was about how instead of deleting everything he saved stuff in something he called a cutting folder. It was basically where all of his ideas that he scrapped into a folder so that he can go back to them if he needed to. I found this very interesting because whenever I write I delete a lot of stuff sometimes even the entire thing. I never thought of how useful a cutting folder might be. He talks about how they might hold ideas that may be helpful later in the book and maybe it’s not a bad piece, just misplaced. That is very interesting to me because I have a lot of ideas pouring out of me at once. I created a cutting folder so that I can keep some deleted ideas for later. The reason, why this was so important to me because I always edit and delete before I’m even finished with anything. It told me that I should not delete anything I write because it might be valuable information later in the story.

The author also said that the first draft is never complete and should always be a little messy. That way you have your fresh ideas all out and can edit them later. His interview almost felt like it was talking about me, someone with hundreds of unfinished work that either I never returned to or deleted. That interview told me to hold on to every idea I have, cause it may help me later.
